D.M. Becherer's Journal, 06 November 2018

Just leaving my house and going to the store causes my hands to start shaking , stomach hurt , and I get really anxious. By time I get home I'm tired, & sick feeling. I lock my door & lay down & rest awhile. Always been there to some extent but this last year has been the worst. I have walked out of stores before & been like nope can't, not now, maybe later.
Walked in with grocery list today, & made it out with bunch of bananas.
I should know not to stress eat . Way too many carbs today.
Going to try to get to store right as it opens tomorrow or next day to beat rush .
A family member told me to
'Put my big girl panties on & deal with it '.
You're a grown a$$ adult act like it.
As if you don't already feel like a screwup, & a failure.

It’s ok try again tomorrow. My son has anxiety at times when he is in crowds, but he manages-one day at a time.

A pair of headphones and an MP3 player are a great way to tune out the world and get things done.

Maybe do online with curbside pickup for the majority of your list. Then go inside for one two or three specific items. Master that, and work in more in time.

it's not about being a big girl. People who've never suffered from anxiety just don't get it.

you sound like me at times. though your anxiety is worse then mine. I'm currently under treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. I hope you find something that makes you feel better. My anxiety gets so bad I can't tolerate even being touched. causes me to cringe and feel panic. like I have to get away.

I had panic attacks after I had a heart attack many many years ago. I hate it when people say I know how you feel, NO YOU DONT if you have never had these feelings, I was becoming house bound with two little boys, I remember going to the shops one day, having a panic attack, drove home, said to hubby I’m going back, I made myself walk passed each shop, I did this each day, my panic started to subside I worked on my breathing to calm myself. It took sometime but I did it, please take each day as it comes, try to do little things as achievements, don’t push yourself to hard, be kind to yourself. I wish you well 💐

Trying to get all my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving again this year. Anything left on the list after that will be bought via Amazon or ordered elsewhere. I get stressed doing Christmas shopping. So I avoid all stores between Thanksgiving and the first week of New Year's. My way of coping! I may try the store pick-up for groceries this winter. Sounds pretty stress free.

order the book called dare response. if you do what the book says it will heal your anxiety for good it did for me. teaches you how to get rid of the fear that perpetuates your anxiety he calls it the fear of fear. I had massive anxiety for 3 years throwing up every morning before work and within a couple days I was 80% better and after a week I was almost completely cured of my anxiety and panic.

You’re not a screwup or a failure, you’re human and we’re not perfect we all stumble and have our struggles. The fact that you recognize your issues is already a step forward.

I’m sorry. I too deal with anxiety and have to push myself more to get out of my house. Don’t have any better advice than to breathe deeply and force yourself to mentally focus on this moment...one moment at a time. So much of my anxiety is pre-anticipation of perceived future situations.

I don't handle people well , but I also suffer from ' multiple chemical sensitivities' . Which basically means I'm allergic to almost everything. Certain colognes, perfumes, airfresheners, cleansers, hair spray, patchouli oil & stuff like cinnamon scented pinecones can literally send me into an attack or anaphylactic shock. That's where part of the anxiety comes from. I've gone to the store & wound up in hospital because of this before. My dog died a year ago. Hannah was a real character. I've just recently started considering getting another dog.

I too suffer with severe allergies. Cinnamon is deadly to me, hospitalized more than once. I call this time of year pumpkin spice season :-{ I used to be able to send my boys into the store first to make sure it was safe for me but they’re all grown up. Now, I have a wonderful dog that can alert me of dangerous odors long before I notice them and I can get out safely. Plus, he’s a really great companion and has eased my anxieties. His needs will push me to take him for a walk on a day the I would have otherwise just stayed under the covers.

People that say nasty things do not understand real anxiety. This is not just "nervousness." Talk to your doctor. There are treatments.

Don't you dare cave in to family/friend pressure. Many of us find crowds and chaos displeasing. You are approaching it properly, small steps.. small crowds. Punishing yourself for having a fear is unacceptable. You my friend are never alone, we are all here for you anytime. 🙋
