Second day of the fast. I gained a pound, really? Anyway, woke up this morning slight headache. Feeling a bit sleepy. Not feeling hungry thank God. Mentally I feel like I could eat something, but tis happens every time on the second day without food. I just need to get to the third day. That is where the energy returns and the mental calmness begins. For the first time I plan to stay that way for a full week. So it continues...

** 11:42am Update ** I want to eat! I am not hungry. In fact I feel kinda full because I have had two coffees and a Green Tea already. But I want to 'chew' on something. I just want to fill my mouth with food and chew and swallow it. It is now lunch time, so instead I am now going to go for a 2 mile walk while I listen to my audio book on my headphones...

** 1:14pm Update ** I just walked 7K steps. No longer hungry :) I get back to the office and someone has filled the hall with the smell of hot butter popcorn Yum! Good thing I am on a fast because otherwise I would 'just have a little' then continue to eat until I felt 'full'.

** 3:30pm Update ** My energy is through the roof. Hunger completely gone. I think my body finally switched to fat burning mode. This is the reason I fast, to feel like this :) Debating doing a 5 mile run tonight...

** 8:32pm Update ** I live in Los Angeles and we have long drives home. After 1 1/2 hours in the car I was feeling tired and sluggish. I just wanted to go to bed early. I know that on a fast I need to exercise to feel good so I laced up the running shoes and set off. At the first mile I got a burst of energy. I felt so good I could have run 10 miles. It was exhilarating. This is why I do the fast, to feel like this. Anyway I got 5 miles in, now off to bed...

Good luck! Thank you for mentioning about the science of fasting in one of your comments. I found it on youtube since I could not get it from Amazon. (different country) It was so interesting! I don't know how many videos I have watched since! I notice that you also have it in your profile. Thank you and good luck again!!

@Daraglist - Dealing with the weight gain is another reason I decided to go with a longer fast this time :)

Hi Adefwebserver, it is great that you are doing this. I have never fasted more than 3 days but hope to soon. I look forward to your journaling your experience. Great luck to you. P.S. I also gained a pound on day 3 and was thinking "what?" Were you putting salt in your water?

@Steven Anthony - Thanks for the support. Tomorrow when my mind is in a better place I may do that journal I have been thinking about on being grateful for what food gives us.

Hang in there. I have done 36 hour fasts and it is hard. You can have bone broth (not chicken stock).

@marshakanady - Thanks for the encouraging words. However, I think actually eating but managing to not overeat is what really takes will power :)

@ny_shelly - Looks like I am going to have to find the time to make bone broth from scratch. I bought some bone broth powder mix but the smell and taste are too awful :(
