Today is a busy day here on the homestead. A bear got into our chicken feed so hubby is getting that cleaned up. Some of the lavender blooms are up so I will be starting my first infused oil of the year today. Hubby is going to get the blooms because I really do not have time to get stung by a bee, since I am allergic. Then there is laundry, housecleaning, cleaning the fish tank, etc. A good day. =)

How do you make infused oil? My lavender is ready to bloom too. My neighbors have bees, and they feast on my lavender all summer long. Fortunately no bear around.

I use a pint or quart size jar and pack it with the blooms, then pour extra virgin olive oil over them. Put the lid on and shake it, let it sit for a minute then open it up and fill the oil to the top. Let it sit in a sunny location for about a month, shaking every day. At the end strain the oil into a fresh jar and there you go. I use the oil as a base for salves and lotions. You can do that with just about any herb. Let me know how it works out.

Thank you, I will try. I used to just dry it and keep it in my bedroom but how much can I use that way. I love the smell, it is so relaxing. My lavender plants are getting bigger every year plus I planted a few more last month.

I love cooking with lavender blooms. Put them in sugar for my "lemon balm" tea in the summer....Wonderful stuff! Also antiseptic in salves, so many uses. Plus I just love the smell!
