madaboutmoose's Journal, 11 January 2010

Received budgetary news from the director of the department I work for. Between January 22nd and the end of the fiscal year in June we have to take 44 additional furlough hours (4 hours each two week pay period). We already had 32 hours ... so now a total of 76 for the year. Ouch. I still have 17.5 left to take of the original 32. I've been spacing it out so it doesn't hit my paycheck so hard.

And so ... I am grateful I still have a job and I have health insurance. Guess I shouldn't have spent that $36.00 at Macy's the other day ... bummer.

Oooh. I'm sorry to hear that. No use crying over spilt milk, though. You bought the clothes because you needed them--on some level. I have family members who do similar work and they are all getting hit hard but state budget cuts. But yes--you still have insurance and a paycheck. And a safe loving home. Not to mention some flattering clothes that make you feel good about yourself.

Sorry about the furlough hours. That stinks! I'm glad that you're looking good, though - that's always a plus! :)

Sorry to hear about that. On the bright side, at least you get extra time to spend with your husband.

Euuuuw...furlough!! We got hit with that TOO!! 56 hours in 2009. And undoubtedly more in 2010, just haven't received word. IT SUCKS!! On the plus side, our union contracts were binding, so we got our 3.1% raise. The loop hole is that they can take it back by enforcing furlough. Whereabouts are you located madaboutmoose??

So sorry to hear about that. Be happy you bought the clothes. They will bring you joy when you wear them.

LauraJo ... I'm in Idaho!! All told it is 76 hours of furlough this fiscal year ... it ends in June. I wonder what next year will hold? The economy just isn't good ... guess many are feeling it.

I am missing out so much.. lol jk, I am sorry to hear about work, crap, thats just gonna roll down hill to us flat landers south of you huh!? lol, we had 40 hrs taken away last year, yeah -I am greatful it wasn't a layoff and NO CRYING OVER SPILT MIK IS RIGHT... :)

Me too Cindy ... at least our full time jobs are still technically intact and we haven't taken a cut in salary if and when the economy ever rebounds. The lowering my chart was a mistake ... I don't want to do it yet and it won't let me change it back!!! Now all I want to do is eat. I have ice-cream in the freezer, crackers I just bought, good cheese in the fridge ... but I'm not really hungry. It was your nacho description ... LOL!!! Not really though. Just feeling a little stressed.

If you don't want to eat an apple, you're not hungry. :) That's my new motto. I am so sorry about the furlough--I am a state government employee too and those rumblings are very scary. I am really glad that they did furloughs instead of letting people go though--an indication that they expect things to improve, right? Hang in there.

Indeed Erika ... you are so right. I read that quote yesterday ... I should have remembered it last night ... I didn't eat an apple but I did eat. I will hang in there ... it will work out one way or another.

We might have to take furlough days too - we haven't had a raise since 2006, either. Our state did let a lot of people go already.
