SPRING RECOMP - DAY 2

The Squat Rack is my happy place. The old beat up rack with the chipped paint and the bent safety bars. With that perfect little niche for my diet coke. The rack where I learned how to squat, where I paid my dues squatting every day. Fasted. Where I learned what ATG really means, what lifting really means. Where I learned what a heavy single is; that how you feel is a lie. Where I earned respect.

I dance in that bitch. Between sets. With impunity. Rage or G-Funk on 12. Mostly Rage. Hoodie up. IDGAF. I see the millennial boys giving me the side eye from their shiny new postmodern contrivance with the hardwood floor and the branded bars. All serious about their pink water and their gloves and their rubber plates and their special people shoes. No wonder so many millennial girls date older. Sorry/not sorry.

It felt like every single cue was right there where I left it, 20 months ago. Every foot placement. Every breath. The chafing on my left palm where the first callous starts. Even the click my right knee makes just before I hit deprh.

It is really a thing of, uh, beauty?

Anywhooo, worked up from empty bar in 10# increments in sets of five. Super strict on form and fluidity. First hint of a grinder and I was done at 155#; down 100# from my last set. Same routine with bench and incline bench. My bicep is still fucked, although maybe better. No pain, but I could feel it. First stop on my flexibility upgrade is thoracic. Hung after lifting for the first time in, uh, 20 months. Repurposed my meditation timer as a hang timer, complete with background music and progress notifications every 10 seconds. So that's a start.

It is pretty nice to be eating again. Grilled up a feast - steak, chicken, onions and yams - post lift. Went back for a bagel later, followed by ice-cream, followed by a grilled cheese when I awoke at midnight (thanks for the inspiration, Moops!). Came in at 3,999. Not trying to maintain that pace, but not sweating it either. Been getting my carbs in the last couple days. Averaging around 300g. Probably another day or so to get fully repleted.

The knurling is better on the old bars...

Starting rolling 72’s today. Thanks for the info. Now I gotta go figure out what all your other acronyms stand for lol
