BuffyBear's Journal, 21 January 2014

Late journal today, but have to brag. Day 2 of staying under my RDI.

Still doing 16:8, but almost didn't make it today. Worked late again. Was just about to eat and DIL came (to borrow money, of course). After she left I went into the bedroom to change and discovered that one of the cats had thrown up on the bed. Cleaned that, threw the bedding into the washer, and finally got to eat my lukewarm dinner.

So now I'm going to curl up with a nice cup of herb tea and try to relax a minute.

Sounds like a fun filled day Buffy ;)Always nice to find suprises left by the kittens. Hope you can get at least a minute and relax with your tea. BTW what is 16:8 ?

Newmooney - It is just eating all your calories in 8 hours. Since you are "fasting" for 16 hours it is supposed to help you burn fat.

Draglist - It is my competitive nature. If you can do it then I can do it too.

Now wait just a minute. I'd be careful there kids. You could end up losing muscle mass if you carry that on too long. I have no idea where they get their RDI from, but everywhere I look my BMR is around 1650 and FS says 1440. No way. Not going there. Losing muscle mass = slower metabolism. My maintenance calories are 2500. Don't do it too long guys. (Wags finger and shakes head, ignoring the fact that I occasionally fast for a couple of days.) :D

Good, sound caution from Northernmusician. I played around with IF and calorie restriction for years and it ended up doing more harm than good. Keep reading and researching both sides of the story, and pay close attention to your energy levels, skin and hair, libido, desire to exercise, and moods.

Nice work and keep going with IF. I used it last year and lost 8 kg in 2 months. Now, i am using it again to lose REAL fat AGAIN. My advice is to train before you break your fast. goodluck

Draglist - Great job on both finishing the green beans and resisting the chocolate bars!

Northernmusic - I cannot lose weight if I eat more than 1200/day. Since I can only eat so little I try to eat as healthy as I can (lots of veggies and protein).

Ennaejay - I respect what you are saying, but don't consider 16:8 to be very radical.

AhmadHaji - Nice to hear of your success, and thanks for the tip.

When you decide you have had enough with cutting and are happy with your weight, I'd seriously consider adding 100 calories a week rather than going back to what you think is maintenance. Our bodies are so adept at adapting (looks at that... yeah, it's right) that our metabolism slows down to try and retain body fat. Adding 100 calories a week allows your body to decide that it can deal with the new 'excess' without having to store it as fat. That way your metabolism increases instead of your weight. I'll bet you're surprised with the results. Too often we hit our goals and just forget about watching what we're eating or forget about controlling it in any way.

I would like to share a tip in order to be loyal to maintain the 16:8 diet . I decide what i want to eat a day before . Being a busy mom and professional i have to plan before hand . i prepare all the meals within the designated calories , pack them in lunch boxes and put them in the fridge . all i have to do is pack the box and get off to work . my target is to finish everything in the box before i come home within those 8 hours of office . I am so full in the evening that my body does not ask for any more food in the evening . at the most i may have a cup of warm herb tea which has negligible calories.

Good job Buffy staying within your rdl and within your 16:8 plan. Think that 16:8 plan would work if it fits into your normal work schedule. Wouldn't work with mine as I need something in the am. Leave @ 6:15 for work sometimes not home till after 6 going to the gym home sometime between 6 and 7 lately. My normal schedule is getting off at 3:30 not lately. Hard to eat anything besides soup and talk on the phone all day with one 15 min break and sometimes working thru our 30 min lunch. Right now I could helping another dept. but usually my day is non stop calls,

Hey Buffy, what's your herbal tea of choice. I buy my tea in bulk from a place called theteaspot.com. Love their ginger, just love their ginger. I was rereading your profile this morning because I had it in my mind that your birthday is coming up. Love your phrase: "I was fat...now I'm less fat...I want to be not fat." How vintage Buffy. I'm right there with you, girl, although you're more committed than I am. You're on your way, to be sure.

Namramn1 - good tips. That herb tea is a lifesaver, isn't it!

Wholefoodnut - I fully understand as it would not work for DH either. Some of us are breakfast eaters and some of us are not. I figure for those of us who aren't - might as well take advantage of the situation!

Northernmusic - I couldn't agree more. But will get back to that 30 pounds from now!

Heather - I should re-write my profile now that I have turned 60. Need to remember that website. Ginger is my favorite too. I sometimes drink Sleepytime EXTRA. Not sure what drug is in the "Extra" but it knocks me out cold. You keep on taking care of yourself - you hear!

Draglist - now I have to go and look up IIFYM. Can't keep all these programs straight!
