Toni Bourlon's Journal, 28 June 2020

So I finally signed up for “My Peak Challenge,” the online fitness program founded by actor Sam Heughan. I did this partly to join the “Oklahoma Peakers” group, in hopes of meeting people, but partly to lower my body fat, which is about 36.8%. Way too high, even though I’ve nearly reached my goal weight of 135 lbs. I may have to lose more weight in order to get my body fat below 30%, but I’ll have to re-assess that later.

The thing is, this program is very different from what I normally do. This program uses a lot more strength training than I normally do, about 4 days vs. 2 days. And there’s not really much cardio. I’m used to running 3 days/week, but this program doesn’t actually have cardio days. There are 2 “active recovery” days where you can do yoga, and at the end of each strength session you can do a mile run for time. I’m thinking that I might do a slow 20-30 minute run after a short yoga session on the “active recovery” days. I figure I paid for this, so I might as well commit to the program for a month & see if there’s any improvement in the body fat percentage.

The diet is also very different, with much higher calories than I normally eat. I don’t plan to go with the calorie recommendations, but I’m going to try and adjust the macros to their plan. They go with 30% protein & fats, and 40% carbs. That’s more protein & fat, and fewer carbs than I normally eat (but a long way from Keto, LOL!). I’ll look at their eating plan & see if I can follow it by lowering the calories. Again, we’ll see if that works.
