Annoyed. Pack walk this evening. All good, except that it was a small group with two ladies who were there to chat and nothing else. I managed to get in 2.83 miles, but my average heart rate for the walk was only 83. The good in that is that my heart rate was really low while another walker was breathing heavy, but she wasn't the issue. She was trying. The other two were there for the view and the chat; the sunset was spectacular, but I'm there to walk my dogs and burn their energy off and my own at the same time. I hate doing this, but I guess we're going to have to set some rules, it's not a social club, it's a pack walk. I'm going to have to assume the HBIC mantle and just put it out there. The purpose of the walk is to cover ground and make the dogs tired so they will pay attention in class. If you want to stop and get coffee or chat, that's fine, but we're not stopping. Just needed to vent.

Interesting. Never heard of a pack walk but I know what HBIC is ... I use that role often when people are being passive / aggressive with me. "Speak up & lead or I will - we can't stand in the intersection all day!"

Fabulous photo. Somebody has to be the Alpha, may as well be you!

In this context, a pack walk is when a group of different dogs are brought together to walk around in an organized group - a mega pack, if you would. The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) group walks around the park with a group of anywhere from 5-25 dogs practicing their training in real life situations. We walk through the theater crowds, have small children run up randomly (and try to teach the kids to ask first, then love as much as you want), see different things like motorized wheelchairs, meet tourists, not react to other dogs, sit down in public settings and not eat food offered by strangers (so hard!) unless the owner says so. It's a little crazy, but a large group of well-behaved dogs can calm down a wild one pretty quickly and with no fur flying. They just "get it" and fall in line with the other dogs. And the dogs love it, they recognize their friends, like some dogs better than others, etc. New smells and some physical activity wear a high energy dog out far more quickly than throwing the ball. After the walk, we do socialization and then class. It's pretty cool. All for free by volunteers.

and now you get the HBIC reference in full context. I don't always feel like it, but someone's gotta do it, otherwise, the group will fall apart and we all lose. 😁
