Sugar is not the devil people make it out to be. Can you get sugar in forms other than highly refined, natural in fruits, etc., of course, but all of it, high fructose corn syrup or organic dates get processed as glucose, which in turn, is stored to muscle tissue as available glycogen, with some stored in the liver. This is the body's bestest, cleanest fuel. Fats do not convert to clean available fuel as naturally as sugar does. If you exercise, there is never any need to be afraid of sugar. The body burns it. There's absolutely no way I could ever fuel 50+ miles rides without sugar. I choose to get it from dates, apple juice, raisens, natural fruits, but, hey, I have also got it from Krispy Kreme donuts. It's all the same.
