Is it my age or just me that my workout performance drops 10-25% for taking just a week off?

No, I have the same difficulty. It may be age related or not. I bet Diablo will have an answer.

Chrisw77, when I was 54 I was really cut, but I've seen a steady progressive decline in areas, albeit it slow. I didn't start training until I was 52/3 and was a hack at it then. I wished I was in my 40s and had another bite at the apple, but no such thing. Unlike you my recoveries take much longer. There isn't much comparison between a 42 year old man and a 58 year old. lol

Adam, I had ankle surgery about 8 months ago & I’m at 80% to recovery. Yes, the strength has reduced & I’m almost back to the same level. I am not sure if this is a good comparison, but turning 60 in a couple months!!

@srossca, I am asking you for weight lifting advice from now on, since you are much closer to my age than that kid, Diablo.

I am going to be 59 this summer, but haven't even started working out.😔 When I do, I am sticking with you all. @Erquiaga - I love "the kid" comment. That group can all be my kids. 😊

@Erquiaga, yes our “joints” are the biggest issue with age. Our minds don’t slow down, but the body has their own direction!! Haha 😂😂

Ahhhhh, so true! 😜

I've heard taking one week off can put you back 3 weeks worth of progress in your goals at any age.

Srossca, we're close. I tore ligaments in my ankle over a year ago, and it's still swollen, and has lost strength. In the morning I climb down the stars like a toddler, by 10 am I walk as if nothing was ever wrong.

I ak sorry, my friend, but I do think it is age...I should know, I am ancient

Actually not true as a matter of fact statistically it easier to overtrain then undertrain and I personally listen to my body and after 6 months of die hard workouts I take a week off to fully allow my muscles to heal so No its not bad once in a while but make it the exception and not the rule

HCB, I think you and I are rather young! 😘

it will do that when we take days off, it's hard for me to start back. when I haven't done it in a while.

Amen. I was off for four days and could only get a portion of my usual workout done. I feel like I've taken a few steps backwards😥

Blaze, before taking a week off I was in the process of gearing up to get back to my 100% former wo routine, and was only operating at 70% capacity. over the past two years I have had one significant injury that has sidelined me, and I notice the climb back to the top gets more difficult.

I figure my performance would increase if I took a week off, the problem is I could never do it on purpose at this point.
