That tingle after a tough workout is from:

(1) The brain is flooded with a few chemicals being released to calm your system down.

(2) Your heart is pumping harder and increasing oxygen in your blood to saturate the working muscles.

(3) Your blood sugar is also increased to supply the fuel necessary to power the job.

(4) Your nervous system is highly active during exercise. It is usually dormant and, when you wake it up, it fires all kinds of electrical signals. When electrolytes and salts are introduced into the equation though, the sparks calm down a bit quicker.

The "buzz" or "high" is the natural version of the chemical reward offered by certain substances since many of the same chemicals and hormones are released in the process.

There isn't a total crash though - just a drop in blood pressure and blood sugar that can be countered with a balanced meal soon after. This will also get restorative nutrients heading to the muscles to begin the repair process.

(4) Drink lots of water because as your muscles are damaged during exercise, they release lactic acid (like an exhaust) and can be harmful if not flushed. This is one of the main cause of soreness, so get rid of it quickly!

If you're feeling lethargic, it may be tough to get going, but never regretful.

If you aren't currently exercising (even walking), you're missing out! ...oh, and besides feeling great, it's good for you too from what I hear 😜

I have never gotten that 'buzz', ever. And I used to work out for real. My body just isn't that nice to me.

I love that "buzz" for me it's just an overall feeling of well being, even though my legs, arms, etc are aching! And that high is also why doctors recommend exercise for people who are depressed. Great post...

Yesterday I was tired and did not want to go to the gym. Then I imaged myself doing my deadlifts (the hardest exercise for me) and I KNEW that I would get the 'reward' you described. So, I dragged myself to the gym and got that reward :)

My one and only run was fueled by adrenaline, so yeah, I guess that felt great. Who doesn't love a shot of adrenaline?! But that's not the dopamine/endorphin (or whatever) buzz you're talking about. I feel satisfied that I did what I planned to do, but, sadly, no buzz.
