Any ideas on extra fiber besides veggies? This diet has restricted my fiber intake...except for those - I know Trader Joe's bread is a good bet but no way to get there for quite a while maybe - when I do I'll freeze some of their bread so I have it around...

You can have psyllium (sp?) caplets for extra fiber. It is just pure fiber. Also flax meal. Mix it in shakes or put it on your salad for extra fiber. It's kinda nutty tasting.

Thanks for the psyllium fiber idea... flaxseed isn't good for men I read on the web - too much estrogen in it - I was taking it for years and recently read just to take Omega 3 for heart health.. thanks sararay - you're like the best person on the site for Atkins info!!! :)

I don't think that flaxseed has any ill effects on men. Plant estrogens are far different from those produced by the body. I've been adding 1 Tablespoon of ground flaxseed and 1 Tablespoon of flaxseed oil to my husband's smoothies since last June and he has not had any ill effects from it (He usually has these 6 days a week). He also mentioned it to his doctor because he was concerned about the fat but the doctor told him that flax has many health benefits. If hubby starts to get "man-boobs" or talk in a higher voice I'll be sure to let you know!!

I read it on a site that flaxseed oil - which I was taking for years is not recommended for men because of high levels of estrogen and it can cause thinning hair in men with long-term usage... so for me I think that is enough reason to stop it and as I'm middle age and was quite overweight - almost 260 at one point I already have the "man boob" issue and once their there you can't get rid of them - though I think the main reasons men get them is of course overweight, hereditary and aging, mine have decreased with the weight loss, but I'm also on meds that cause them too... just some thoughts... P.S. I'm a nurse and not all doctors know every side effect of every drug especially herbs unless they're a homeopath...

*blush* so many compliments today. I don't know what to say. I'd never heard that about flax seed oil. Are you sure you didn't get it mixed up with soy? Soy is a pseudoestrogen, but I hadn't heard that about flax. Just checking. Do you remember where you read it. I would be very interested in it.

Correction: phytoestrogens not pseudoestrogens
