Date Night Well I have maintained my goal of not eating more than 30 grams of carbs for 3 days now. It wasn't all that difficult. To be honest I was more worried about feeling withdrawal from alcohol and caffeine than I was from pasta and bread. Aside from a mild headache yesterday morning I have felt fine. A little bit of lethargy now and then but I find that if I get up off my duff and move around that doesn't last. My appetite has decreased quite noticeably. I'm told this is typical for many low-carb diets and not normally a bad thing unless you stop eating altogether. The ketone test strips I bought are turning pink, which is an indication that I am metabolizing fat for energy (I won't go into the gory details). These factors are all well and good, but tonight will provide a particular challenge to my will-power: Date Night. There are a number of different ways this can go wrong (speaking in terms of the diet). Everything from "It's Happy Hour! Beer is two-for-one!" to, "I REALLY want the chocolate brownie sundae but it is too rich, will you split one with me?" And there are a number of different ways this can go right. I have a supportive partner who probably won't drag me to a pizza joint. And most restaurants usually have something on the menu that low-carbers can enjoy without too much guilt.
