Okay, so I slipped a little yesterday. It's hard to eat right when you're not cooking for yourself. I went to a Great Book banquet. It was held at the Woodruff House near the law school. It's a gorgeous old house, with beautiful furnishings and decorations. I thought it would be fingerfood and then I'd get a chance to leave, but no such luck. Apparently banquet=full-on dinner. When I arrived there were plates on the table with rolls and piece of cheesecake. GREEEEEEEEEAT. Perfect time to start a diet, right?

I'll have you know that I was actually pretty good. I scraped the breaded bits off my chicken (may have left a bit of it on there). I barely put any dressing at all on my salad. When I could, I filled up on the vegetables other people weren't eating. (I'm not ashamed). The boy beside me didn't want his cucumber or tomatoes, so I took them. Then I swapped my potatoes for his asparagus. I didn't eat the roll at all, even though it looked awesome, and I had to watch while those around me covered theirs in butter (rose-shaped butter, at that).

I was doing so good. I was done with dinner, and I hadn't eaten any cheesecake. They passed out some awards, and everyone went around the room, introduced themselves and said their favorite quote. Then, it was time to go. Right? RIGHT? No. Instead, someone decided to give a 20-minute long lecture about...something. I sorta paid attention. Come on. I'm a Great Books student partially because I hate lecture classes. DO NOT LECTURE ME WHEN CHEESECAKE IS IN FRONT OF ME.

Needless to say, I ate it. It started with "I'll just have one bite," and it progressed from there. Bad, bad, bad. I'm determined not to feel too horrible about it, and just keep up the good attitude. I'm still allowed the 35 flex points. I'm allowed 23 points in a day, so I only went over by 4.5 points, leaving me 30.5 points that I will try to NOT use.

Also, who knew there were six points in light popcorn? I had no idea until I entered it into here. I need to go buy some healthier popcorn. I'll be eating a lot of celery today.

Don't dwell on slip ups. Just record them and move on. David's sermon on (daylight) fasting last Sunday made me wonder if that might be a good "penance" for going off the wagon occasionally. ;-) Remember:You can be a glutton a dozen times a year or so if you are disciplined the other days. Lifestyle change. Lifetime commitment. It's a matter of health and happiness. You have begun! 143 (Am I a good cheerleader?)
