I didn't do very well today. I had Heinz 57th sauce w/my Spam for lunch which used up 4 of my carbs plus I used some up on a recipe w/feta cheese and olives. So I didn't end up having enough carbs left to eat 12 veggie carbs for the day. Oh, I forgot to add that I drank 4 oz. of diet cranberry juice which is not even allowed in Induction. The reason I drank it was because I wanted to go to the Y and walk on the treadmill and my blood sugar was only 89. I was afraid it would drop down too much after I exercised if I didn't have some quick carbs. Any suggestions for some quick carb veggie snacks to keep on hand for future carb emergencies? My blood sugar is going so low I probably need to ask my doctor to completely stop my Glucophage so I can work out without my blood sugar bottoming out. I have trouble managing to get 12-15 veggie carbs while still managing to get some variety in my food plan.

Watch out for spam. It's got lots of salt that can cause you to retain water.

Add pinach or mushrooms to your morning eggs or even leftover asparagus from the night before. You may not need your glucophage if you are low carb eating so show your doctor your food diaries and your blood sugar readings. As for the diet cranberry juice, if it is the diet ocean spray, it is 5 calories and it won't help with hypoglycemia. You might want to keep an Atkins Advantage shake or an Advantage bar on you cause although they are low carb, they should have enough calories and carb to stop a hypoglycemia attack while you exercise. ( I know- I get them too and have cut back on my medication). The problem with the shakes is that they need to be cold. The problem with the bars are that the fanatic on this site will yell at you for using them because they are purists and do not understand what it is like to live with diabeties. They have never had hypoglycemia and had the emergency people come in and force fed you tons of glucose and not only ruin your diet but humiliate you. So my thing is, we are all different and we need to be prepared for our medical issues. I keep a bar with me and use the shakes for blood sugar maintanence and for variety from over-egg consumption.
