Shawn1164's Journal, 05 June 2017

I was a long time member here at fat secret a few years back but encountered some serious medical issues not related to my weight loss efforts, namely a couple of bouts with blood clots in my lungs. This put a large bind in exercise efforts since I get short of breath with almost any exertion at all.

My weight had climbed back to about 500lbs and stayed within a few pounds of that for over a year. I lost interest in trying to eat right since diet seemed to make no difference. By April I had reached 520. My diabetes was uncontrolled and my mood was sullen.

I heard about a program whereby they claimed type II diabetes could be reversed through diet alone, allowing you to drastically reduce and even get off your diabetes meds altogether. As you probably know diabetes meds have the undesired side effect of causing weight gain. Doctors urge you to lose weight to help battle diabetes and the meds make it nearly impossible.

More to follow.

Please consult your doctor before stoping your meds! Also talk to your doc regarding ways to lose weight, if that's what you want to. I hope you'll find a courage and strength to reach your goals!

Don't stop you meds. work with your doctor as your weight drops you will require less medication. With enough weight loss you can be off all medications. It won't happen overnight. Have patience. As an RN I've seen patients on a plant based diet go from 6 meds a day to ) in a years time. Sending you hugs and love

Hello, Shawn, I can attest to the reversing of DM2. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, but at the time I knew that the results being given were from lab work from the previous year (around Nov.) So, I re-tested and confirmed my suspicions. I had reversed my diagnosis. I had read about Dr. Neal Barnard and watched his video as well. Now, mostly on a plant-based diet, this journey has helped me triumphed with my battle with DM2. http://www.pcrm.org/media/experts/neal-barnard-diabetes-book Good luck to you! Know that this really does work. [A1c results - Nov. 6.1, then with modified diet A1c 5.5 in early July 2017]
