Counting calories is driving me nuts, especially since I'm playing with different foods and recipes for dinner while also being busy. I've pretty much dropped keeping track of the numbers for the time being, and instead I've been focusing on portion sizes.
This is the basic outline I've been using: https://rationingrevisiteddotcom.wordpress.com/2012/01/26/portion-sizes-how-much/
It's about 1930s sizes of portions, which are significantly less than what I'm used to seeing around America. I've been eating a lot at home, and it's been brilliant. I'm going to be making myself a quick chart that I can use to check off as I go through the day to keep track of portions.

Interesting approach - I know for sure people ate less sugar in the 30's. Growing up in the 50's, we didn't eat dessert every night but it was more of a once a week kind of thing. Sodas were for special occasions, as were chips.

Yeah, it's been an interesting time of things. I don't like to count calories with everything, especially if I'm eating at a work luncheon or something. There is just too much variability. So, I'm focusing on portions for a while to make that soooo much easier and healthier.

Interesting link. My parents were Depression survivors, and that of course was followed by WW2 rationing. We grew up with a garden, and fruit & nut trees in our backyard, so it is sad to think how far we turned away from eating what was there for us to what could be picked up at a drive thru. So now we have to turn back to the past to correct what our "modern" ways have done to us.
