I have such a hard time leaving any food on my plate. I grew up in a very large family and I can't say I was always left hungry, just not full. I have a serious problem stopping when there is any left. For instance: last night we had pizza, which I dip in ranch. There was too much ranch left on my plate, so I ate another piece of pizza and was too full. I need to jump this hurdle and continue on my way. It just sems to be a continuous roadblock.
I really enjoyed hearing the comment from Merield about finding the positive. I will endeavor to try this for the next week and see how it goes.

Try really small plates
Cut everything in half before you start (i.e. start with half a slice of pizza and get the second half if you want it)
Put dipping sauce in a container with a lid. If it's not finished and you can't bear to just toss it, put the lid on and put it in the fridge. Clean out the fridge frequently and toss these leftover bits.
Plan to have leftovers. Of course there is going to be extra. So I'll get out the containers for it and when we're finished eating, I'll put the extra away. I took a different tactic after a while because I found that I would mindlessly munch on cold leftovers so I now toss everything that isn't eaten immediately.
