Smooth's Journal, 06 November 2009

Seems each week there is a new wrinkle! This week, I was told by many (it should be noted by the reader that I live a public life) that I "look great, but you don't want to look too skinny!" The comments were annoying, but they reflect the discomfort that those around me have not just with change, but with loss. I think that we as human beings have the hardest time with loss...not so much change (change can represent loss). The people I know were comfortable with the old me, the one who weighed 388 pounds...the one who was "fat and happy"...the one in whom they could define their lives against.

That guy is gone.

Better still, this journey has been a lesson for me inwardly. I'm learning about what bothers me and what doesn't, what inward reservoirs have deepened, and what needs to be deepened. It has been a fascinating adventure of the self!

In conclusion, I'm thankful to be alive, thankful to have come so far, and excited about continuing this journey.
