Today is the beginning of my weight loss journey. I am only attempting to lose 20 lbs, however they are not in vein. 15 years ago my mother, a petite woman with a small frame was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. At the time she had gained about 50 extra pounds from a few years of bad care on her body. My mother had always taken very good care of herself prior to those few years, and she had been a medical student in mexico. This always struck me as odd, either way, her doctors recommended that she lose the weight and exercise more often. My mother did just that, lost 50 pounds exercised and looked great! She had more energy and vibrancy than ever, now 15 years later unfortunately she still has the diabetes but she has maintained her weight loss she has weighted 115-120 for the last 15 years and I know that isn't easy. She is my inspiration to lose this weight. For my age and my height I know that 20 pounds isnt just 20 pounds, I am considered obese. I exercise often, as much as I can because I find peace and relaxation in it. I like most others sometimes just get lazy and dont do anything. I'll sit home with my boyfriend and watch a movie or drink a beer. But this time I want to be motivated for myself, my health and my personal achievement. I want to be able to look in the mirror and tell myself that I did it. So today marks the beginning of this journey, I know it won't be entirely smooth, due to the fact that I tend to be a little harsh on myself. Hopefully I can maintain a straight mind and not give up too easily. Wish me luck! -Sol

Welcome to FS. There are lots of people on here who will encourage and support you, so keep in touch with them all through your Journal etc.
It is an exciting time, taking control of what you eat and making a difference to yourself.
I just started a couple of weeks ago, and am finding foods that I never thought I would enjoy.
Regards
Janet
