Coach_B's Journal, 11 January 2016

It’s funny how I operate. I completely fell off the wagon for 4 months. I’m really disappointed. This is a pattern I’ve followed for the last 5-10 years. I do really well in January – February, start slipping in March, completely off by April, try to regain momentum late summer for my annual beach trip, then off fully again by September, then starting again in January. Each year, come January, I’m +5-10 lbs from the previous January. I did it again, I continued this ugly cycle, 414lbs is my new all time high. Last January I was 411lbs. I’m trying again, I remember the old anti-cigarette movement had a slogan, don’t quit quitting. That’s my new adage/montra.

I tried to start a ketosis diet last Monday, January 4th. It lasted 2 days, then I bailed. I took the next 5 days reading and studying and reading more, I feel I’m ready to go now. I tried ketosis last July-August (my beach trip prep) and I really struggled getting in to ketosis. But, the research I’ve done all points to ketosis as the way to go. I did purchase a cookbook this go around, I remember thinking last summer, “what the hell am I supposed to eat other than butter and coconut oil!”, I’m supposed to limit my proteins, eliminate fruit and carbs and increase my fat intake. I really struggled, but feel I’ve taken steps to overcome my previous pitfalls.

As I’ve stated on here before, I coach a high level travel baseball team as well as school ball, we started indoor practices yesterday. I was so surprised (and embarrassed) at how winded I was getting just running the practice. I was sweating profusely and kept thinking about the parents who were watching through the window and what they must think of me as a coach. I went into a 2 hour self loathing phase after practice. I tried to think positively in the evening though, remembering some of the words I told my players, “you can’t step into the batter’s box without some type of a plan and expect to be successful, what pitch are you looking for?, what are you going to do if it’s an outside pitch?, inside pitch?, curve ball?, fast ball?, to be successful you have to know what you’re going to do, if you don’t have a plan, you’re just hoping to get lucky instead of controlling the at bat.” I tried to put that in perspective for my weight loss battle, I do have a game plan, I have prepared and I am trying to control the situation, rather than trying to get lucky and hoping I can stick to a diet for once!

Welcome back! Kuddos on choosing Keto. You've really got to think of it as a 'Way of Eating' and not a diet. Sure, you'll eventually want to have something carbish eventually. I know I have, but as that time nears I push it out further... I really want to have nachos on my birthday next month but the closer I get the more realistic that aftermath will be... Joint pain, cramps, aches, bloating, brain fog, lethargy, etc... And even *if* I decide to eat something high in carbs, it's just a momentary decision and not a change in my WOE.

Jump back on as if you never left. ☺ I am doing low/no carb. I have done it since November 10th...and I was 340. Today I am 312.4. It works.
