Sandy701's Journal, 23 August 2011

3.1 miles walked, 1.5 of it with doggies. The UGH Index is back up to a 9 during most of my walk and it was 88 degrees when I finished up this morning.

Good news in that Hurricane Irene will not affect us, but bad news for those of you in the Carolinas. I heard that tourists and residents of Ocracoke Isl. in NC have until tomorrow morning to evacuate. That's such a beautiful place that we visited years ago, but there are limited, and relatively slow, ways off the island, so I guess the evacuation needs to happen well in advance of a storm. With some luck, maybe Irene will keep steering to the east and bypass the mainland completely.

I am glad Irene will not be a problem for you, or anyone else for that matter. We only have to deal with tornados here, I don't know which is worse?

GG...at least one gets more of a warning with hurricanes. I lived through Hurricane Hugo back in '89 in Charleston, SC right after we moved there (what a welcome!). It was my first, and hopefully my last, hurricane. I haven't gone through a tornado (knocks on wood) but have lived in part of Tornado Alley twice, where they don't even have basements!

Bren...you OK from the earthquake? Hope Irene keeps out of your neck of the woods!

Hi Sandy, never felt a thing from the quake and Irene won't make it to the mountains..but I wish we would get some rain from her..no chance of that as she is heading eastward now...or was the last I heard...
