I attended a very good weight loss workshop many years ago. One of her instructions was to place your hand on your stomach and close your eyes. Assess how hungry you are. Zero is famished, 10 is uncomfortably full. Do not eat until you are at 0, 1 or 2. Stop when you get to 5. It worked very well when I worked it. I realize my inner hunger measurement has gotten all out of whack.

I have found that being aware of the flavor helps; I take pains to mindfully taste my first bites of a meal. I keep aware of the flavor, and I stop when it changes to less tasty. This is my brain letting me know that I am on my way to 5 or 6.
