Finally got to the gym! Didn't record food these past couple of days because I didn't eat any brand name food or measure it first. Nor did I weigh myself since the last time I checked in. Have to admit that I was feeling discouraged, as I had read an article stating that the way to avoid post-menopausal weight was with aerobic exercise 5 DAYS A WEEK! I have no problem with doing 5 days worth of exercise in 2 days, or even 3. But this is a huge chunk of time pretty much every day of the week! I'm hoping to get fit enough to resume using the nordic track every other day. Do that & the pounds melt off like butter in a hot skillet. However I have a ways to go.

Just added one of my favorite breakfasts, & was horrified that it's 665 calories! No wonder it's so filling!
165.4 lb Lost so far: 1.8 lb.    Still to go: 31.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

There a LOT of articles printed in which the author proposes some health solution, some do-this, don't-do-that thing that is not backed up by ANY science or study. Or sometimes there is a study that maybe had 20 people in it, which doesn't prove anything. I have to say my worst weight gain was before menopause, anyway - the 10 years between 41 and 51. Even then I was able to lose weight without any rigorous exercise.

thank you! I thought this article was kind of a downer. But you did remind me that yes, I did lose 15+ pounds pretty much just before menopause, and kept it off for awhile. But it was the exercise, the nordic track, which I again was using every other day. I think that on my mothers' side I inherited that thrifty gene which wants to store fat for the coming famine. She was obese (no exercise whatsoever. The fitbit would have shown steps only in the double digits. She had type 2 diabetes as she hit her 60's. Her mother was also obese, had type 2 diabetes, severe enough for it to cause spells of dementia, and her death. The studies on this gene(s), expanded their patient group to the Amish, where they found the increased manual labor kept the women who had this gene(s) at a healthy weight. I have no desire to wash clothes by hand or beat carpets on a clothesline, so the only thing left is exercise.

LOL on the "housework as exercise." Everyone has their unique body to work with and you'll figure yours out. You know that show "Biggest Loser" and how it all seems to be about the extreme workouts? Trainer Bob Harper says the exercise isn't what causes the weight loss, it's the diet. Likely it's ALL important. I'm curious that you don't log because you don't eat "brand name foods." You can log regular foods (hamburger, carrots, almonds) without having them be a brand-name. Also, if you make your own recipe for a dish you can list all the ingredients and save it in your personal food items so that if the recipe makes 4 servings and you eat one you log 1/4 of that recipe. (I probably didn't explain that well; been awhile since I did that for myself.)
