Ashley Lose Weight's Journal, 07 September 2015

I feel like I have been on a weight loss/weight gain roller coaster all of my life. When I was a child, in elementary school, I thought I was fat. Looking back on it, I don't think I was overweight, but I was probably at the higher end of my healthy weight range. Anyway, since I thought I was overweight, I started adding exercise into my daily life. At the time, I didn't realize I needed to adjust the way I was eating as well. After I added exercise, I still wasn't losing weight. At this time of my life, I was supposed to be gaining weight and growing, so that could of played a part in why I wasn't losing weight, but I stopped exercising every day because I thought it wasn't doing any good. Then, my weight gain continued. Then, when I got into middle school, I really started noticing my body even more, and compared to most other girls in my grade, I decided I was still too fat. At this point, I decided I would add exercise back into my daily routine. I still didn't know how to eat properly, so once again, I didn't lose weight. I didn't give up on exercising this time, though. Then, once I started staying at home by myself, I decided I would skip breakfast. That was a huge mistake, but it's what I did. Then, I still wasn't losing weight, so I decided I would stop eating snacks. I wasn't losing weight at that point, but I wasn't losing weight either. Then that summer, I decided I would just stop eating except dinner, and any time I got hungry during the day, I would exercise. That didn't last very long because I was starving. Then, I gave up on the whole diet and exercise thing completely. My weight did continue to rise, as it should have since I was growing and developing, but I did become overweight. When I was in high school, I went on the Adkins diet, and I did lose weight. I felt happy when I was losing weight. I finally felt good about myself, and I gained confidence. Then, I went to college. I lived in the dorms and had to go to the cafeteria to eat my meals. The food they made wasn't Adkins friendly, so I ended up gaining all of my weight back plus some. Then, after I graduated college, I decided I would try weight watchers. That worked, but I just eventually stopped going to the meetings, and then I stopped doing weight watchers altogether. I gained my weight back, plus some, once again. Then, I decided I would start eating fewer calories. That did help me lose weight, but I stopped eating fewer calories, went back to eating the way I used to eat, and I gained all of my weight back. One day I just decided that I had, had enough, so I was going to lose my weight once and for all. I did lose my weight. I went from 299 pounds at my highest weight to 135 pounds. I was still losing weight, and I was once again happier than I had ever been with myself. I had a nice routine where I was exercising 5-6 days a week and eating 1200 calories Monday through Friday while giving myself a cheat day on Saturday and a semi cheat day on Sunday. It worked wonderfully for me. I was still trying to lose a few more pounds, when I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for almost 10 years, but it wasn't happening, and there was no medical reason that we couldn't get pregnant, so I had almost given up on ever having a baby. Then, by a miracle, we got pregnant. At first, I was trying to make sure I didn't gain too much weight during the pregnancy, but by the time I got into my second trimester, I gave in and started eating how I wanted, which of course made me gain weight like crazy. I ended up gaining 100 pounds while pregnant. Now, she has been born, and she will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. I have decided it is time for me to get back to losing the weight I put on while pregnant and get back to where I was. I know it's going to take a couple of years to get back to where I was, but there shouldn't be anything stopping me now. I just have to find a routine where I will be able to incorporate exercise again. It will happen, I will just have to keep trying.
