Trying to do a fast today. I should be able to make it. Well, it's a modified fast - liquids only.

Worked out - did the Piloxing dvd and burned 400 calories. Got me pumped up to do a bit of housework, too. Should burn almost 2800 calories today I think. Felt good to do a workout.

Adjusting to being home again. I went up to the White Mountains on Thursday afternoon and didn't come home until yesterday morning. And we spent the weekend before there, as well. SO much cooler up there at 7,000' elevation! Down into the 50's at night, highs of about 86 maybe. Perfect hiking weather :D We did get in several hikes. A couple memorable ones, too. One that included a downpour.... for a couple of MILES, complete with lightening and thunder. Our neighbor (he and his wife rented the cabin for a month up there) had thought ahead and bought 3 ponchos for us to use. They definitely helped! We were muddy and wet from the knees down, but stayed fairly dry elsewhere.

Another hike that is memorable is getting lost with my neighbor. My husband stayed at the cabin to work, so it was just the two of us hiking and we ended up getting off the trail somehow. Well, actually, I think partly MY fault as I was looking at the fresh tracks. Some were elk, but others definitely looked like bear tracks in the mud. There had just been a bear attack a mile from that trailhead in late June. The woman ended up dying later from her injuries. But that was a bit disconcerting, realizing how close we were to where the bear attacked. Add to that being lost for a while. Ended up finding a road and being able to call my husband with GPS coordinates (my neighbor didn't know how to use his Garmin watch! Would have been helpful, for sure). Anyway, I'm sure we'll remember a couple of those hikes :D

This definitely sounds like one of those stories you tell around a campfire. One time we were hiking and........ :D Glad to see you back. That trip sounds wonderful! Why would you have a watch like that and not know how to use it? Geez. So I was thinking of you last night. My friend did my hair again where I'm pretty much all blonde now. A few little strips of brown but we were toasting our wine to a job well done last night, giggling about our hair and all the crazy things that have happened to me lately and I thought......YEP...D would be proud.

Hey my friend of the hiking world..those trails seem like they could be dangerous as well as fun...great stories for the kids for sure..how's that room make over coming along??? love to see pics..The mountains are alot cooler but more humid...so you have to take the bad with the good. No need for a spa when you can walk in the mud.LOL Have a terrific day and keep dry.....Bren

Hi Bren - yeah, in retrospect it seems pretty careless to have hiked them. They did catch the bear and couldn't find anything wrong with it - it simply charged the woman from 60 yards. Speculated it was hungry. I did wear my bear bell on my waist, but doubt if it'd work if a bear is truly hungry. Room makeover is still stalled. Waiting to grout the tiles until we do the rest of the wraparound hearth and that will take hubby's help to fill in where I tore out! :D The mountains really didn't feel humid to me at all. It feels more humid here - probably because of the heat and well... I guess it IS monsoon season! lol... I should have slipped in the mud and had a spa treatment! :D
