She is insecure about you. (MAYBE?)

Your wife is probably aware that she needs to lose a few pounds and projects her negative self image onto you, hence the criticism or words. It might be your success and will power and making her more aware of her extra pounds and weakness.
I literally just read an article on this, came to this site and read your post.

Wow, that's an interesting coincidence. Not irony if I understand how those words work. But you are probably correct. I sent her an article on why people fail to lose weight and she said it made her feel bad. She does eat healthy, and is concerned about losing some weight (in her hips and thighs). I sent it to her because it was a good article, not to say anything about her. But she is so sensative about everything.

You have essentially called her fat

Why not go the whole hog and buy her a gym membership... sorry my twisted humour cannot be thwarted... It does make sense that as one person is successful the other becomes much more aware that they are not. Thinking about it, i can recall many instances of negative remarks (Not driven by spite but a nagging that I was doing what others tried and failed at.) Probably healthier at 40 than I was at 20

Me too! I am 38 and probably healthier than I have ever been. She would not go to the gym. She doesn't like to exercise simply for the sake of exercising. She would rather work out on the garden. So It will have to be via diet. I am trying to get her into my shake routine, she has had a few for her morning meal over the last couple weeks, but sometimes she goes out and she gets up much earlier than me so it's hard to coordinate them together. Nothing saying she can't make her own. It has to be a very delicate thing to get her into it, or I risk serious repercussions. lol

A more suble way might be a cooking class together, they will measure portions and give you recipes which you can then use to make delicious stuff that will help her drop pounds without her even trying.
I am wise.

Thanks for the advice. But that would make her feel even worse. She is not a very good cook. Her idea of proper heat is high or very high. lol

What goes into your body is not being selfish. They make their life choices and you make yours - don't let anyone guilt you into making choices that aren't yours. I, person who doesn't know you, back you 100% :)
