Debbie Cousins's Journal, 12 May 2023

Yesterday was 198 and today is 197.6, PTL! I want to continue to go down tomorrow and Saturday so the high-calorie Mother’s Day Meal (and two days of leftovers) won’t knock me out of ONEderland!

As to the Diet Coke. Thank you all for your concern. Though I know I should drink less, I continue for several “reasons” (translated: excuses): (1) when I drink large quantities of water, I have to get up FIVE times during the night to pee! I have to drink ALL the time because of the Glycopyrrolate I take making me so thirsty. (2) I’m addicted to DC. I’ve been drinking it for decades. It’s a psychological thing. It’s my friend. It refreshes me, comforts me, rewards me, calms me down. I CAN give it up. I’ve done it many times before. The longest time was about two months, I think. Then, I say, “I’ll just have ONE can (bottle, glass), and then I’m hooked again. (3) the formaldehydeargument doesn’t dissuade me. I kinda think of it as “preserving” my body (not embalming it)

If I need to give up the Diet Coke, may the Lord convict me of that, motivate me to do it, and empower me to stick with it. For now, I’ll just try to add in as much water as I can tolerate without causing me to wake up at night.

I gave up all carbonated beverages about 5 years ago. Don't miss them any more, but it took awhile.

My dear Shirley, I know I’ve gotten some flack in the past about drinking Diet Coke, but I’ve always felt that they were offered in love and concern for my health. I’ve never felt as if any of the comments have been judgmental. I DO thank you for your love, support, and concern for my feelings! rhontique, great job!!! I would LOVE to get to the point where I wouldn’t miss Diet Coke any more. Even though I’ve been able to go a month or two without it in the past, it’s always been very hard, and I felt like I’d lost my best friend.

Debbie, I drink gallons of coffee instead, so guess I just traded one vice for another! But strangely the artificial sweeteners spike my blood sugar and then it crashes and sends me into a hypoglycemic episode. I don't understand why it does that since there is no sugar in it, but it makes me feel so terrible that it doesn't even sound good anymore.
