BuffyBear's Journal, 24 July 2011

It is a beautiful Sunday morning - still hot but I think I'm becoming accustomed to it. Been out on the deck bird watching. Our backyard is covered with robins - a bunch of fledgelings must have left their nests all at the same time - still all fluffy and awkward.

We also had a bluebird nest. Then something happened to Mother bluebird. That poor Daddy bluebird worked round the clock taking care of the babies all by himself - and was successful! He got them all out of the nest last week. I never guessed that would have happened.

OK - enough of the nature lesson. Hope the rest of you are having a great weekend.

I'm surprised you could sit on the deck with baby robins in the yard. My sister often has robin nests close by and those Mama Robins dive-bomb her whenever the little ones are beginning to leave the nest! She knows now that she has to watch from inside until the babies finally take flight.

Sandy - DH feeds the birds and we have a pool of water for them - I guess they just get used to us being around.

Good evening Buffy! I enjoyed the nature lesson! You obviously don't have a feline friend with you on your deck! I'm very impressed with the Daddy Bluebird. Wouldn't it be great if some of his human counterparts stepped up to the plate and took care of their babies?

Mysterious - I have two overfed felines who lost interest in birds years ago. Besides, they and the dog are partial to air conditioning this time of year.
