Zane_S's Journal, 13 September 2022

Not the perfect numbers I was looking for but my 2 week cut experiment is complete and the results are in. Overall I came in at 9.4% body fat with .8 pounds of fat loss, but unfortunately, 1.6 pounds of muscle loss(not the goal). However, it could have been much worse and I’m now entering a bulk cycle which I’m pretty excited about increasing my calories through the end of the year. I’m setting a daily intake goal of 3500+ calories which should allow me to pack on the pounds and gain muscle while still keeping up with my cardio routine. My goal is to gain 30-40 pounds by January, hopefully that will include a little muscle. Looking at the new year for the next cut cycle, until then, it’s beer, BBQ, and birthday cakes. Bring it!

Awesome! Did you do cardio during the last part of the cut and what kind if so?

-Diablo - Yes, I always include cardio. Guess I consider myself a runner more than anything else. I do 2 miles every morning as a way to get the blood flowing. I normally do two longer runs during the week on Wednesdays (5-6 miles) and Saturdays (8-13 miles). Depending on events, I may have a marathon every month or so. I also cycle on Sundays for 30 - 50 miles. Unfortunately large amounts of cardio and weight gain goals don’t mesh well which is what prevents me from seeing more favorable results.

I think you can bulk as long as you can out eat your burn, probably not optimal depending on where you want to out muscle on. The lean mass loss makes sense with that much running. It happened to me, big time when I was doing 5-12 miles a day. You have to do what you love though!
