Hot and humid with no end in sight. Well, that's not exactly true....we have some rain on the far horizon of next week Monday!

I walked 3.1 miles today, taking the dogs only .8. I didn't want them getting too hot where they'd want to hop in the pool as I'm doing some standard chemical adjustments on the water. The water will be fine for anyone to go in later today.

I have a much-needed haircut appointment later today and then will be able to do some errands that I've been saving over on that end of town (trying to save on gas).

My absolute favorite pizza place (Papa Murphy's) is coming to town! Yay!.....and, oh no!!!!! They'll open probably less than 2 miles from my house. At least my "treat" pizzas for Christmas/New Year's will be more convenient to get. I'm certainly glad they're opening THIS year rather than LAST year, as I think (hope) I'm in a better place to be able to avoid getting those pizzas on a regular basis.

In the past, part of my downfall on Atkins was staying on plan for most of the week and then going off on a day or two of the week, eating Chinese buffets, Burger King, pizza, etc. After being on plan for 5 days, off plan for 1-2 days, back on for another 5 days, then off for maybe 3, etc., I eventually just stayed off plan and, of course, gained weight. Fast food and/or a majority of restaurant food are not good on anyone's diet. But when it's so much easier to obtain than shopping, preparing, and cooking food at home, well, its lure is hard to resist.

But, things have changed over this past year. I'm seeing most food prepared elsewhere as "not good" and certainly not as healthy (for Atkins) as anything I could prepare at home. If I have to eat out, I now know that there are a few foods out there that will be OK. But I wouldn't want to eat even those on any kind of a regular basis.

DH and I have a retirement dinner to go to later this week. Luckily, it's at a seafood restaurant we've been before, so there should be some nice, fresh catch fish available that I can get them to grill or broil....maybe even some shrimp. The hush puppies will stay in a basket far away from me, although I'm not really a fan of those anyway.

Sandy, we have a chance of a little rain today, and then nothing for the next 5 days...at least at this point, although they do not seem to be very successful at forecasting these days. lol I know what you mean about the pizza and trying to stick with it for 5 days then off for a few, and pretty soon it's always off, and then it is so hard to get back on! This time I am not going to fall into that trap again. The retirement dinner sounds awesome, as does the fresh catch. Yummo. Enjoy that pool! Ours is at 80 degrees now, but still kind of cloudy, so we are still working at it. I really do not want to add alum as it is so hard on the filter. Have an awesome day!

Stef, I've had no experience with alum but hopefully you won't have to add it. Hope it clears up soon since 80 degrees is pretty darn close to swimmable! I agree with you - sometimes the best weather forecast is just sticking your own head out the window!

Sandy the alum works as a flocking agent, and it all settles out nicely, but then you have to sweep all of it to the maindrain with the filter set to waste as it will clog the sand up otherwise. And it is fluffy so when you are sweeping a lot of it floats back into suspension and then you have to wait for it to settle out again. We had to use it last year, and it took 5 days of sweeping and settling to get the flock out! It was terrible. I am really hoping we don't have to do it again. Not sure what these pool guys are doing wrong, but we have had the pool for 23 years, and just these last 3 years when we open it, it looks like pea soup. Always before, when we pulled the lid, it was crystal clear and ready for swimming with just a bit of warm up. I am getting just a bit irritated with it! And I am sticking my head out the window now! lol

Hey Sandy, it is hot here as well. 93 today and that is real hot for our part of the world. Hope we get our AC back by next week, its hard to sleep at night. Your doing so well with your program.. Keep it up girl....Bren

No a/c and it's 93??!! You can always try my mother's little trick of how to sleep when it's too warm out. Just take a washcloth and wet it down with cold water (wring it out, of course) and place it, rolled up, on your forehead. I tell you, this works! If you're a "side" or tummy sleeper, you're on your own!!

We haven't turned our AC on yet....just been using the attic fan. It has been a bit warm during the day, but nights have been pleasant. May have to try the washcloth trick! Thanks!

Hahahaha Sandy, That reminds me of when we visited our Aunt Thelma in GA, she didn't have AC, so we would wet our t-shirts and sit in front of the fan. You should of heard our aunt cackle. But it worked and we stayed cool that way.. I will try the wash cloth on my neck as I am a side sleeper...

Hi Sandy, I was in Daytona for the day last Sat. It was hotter than hades. My friend didn't use her AC Much. I sweltered in the night and woke up drenched. Argh I couldn't wait to get back to central air. I think I should use that wet my T shirt trick one day:) Glad you are doing well and walking. You are almost at 70 lbs lost. I know you know that but just wanted to say that freakin rocks! Mel

Pizza is my weakness, especially Papa Johns with garlic sauce and pepperchini's.. Stay strong :-) I know the temptation all too well lol!

I just eat the toppings and feel ok with that.

Ate at Mc Donald yesterday, and no problem... Side salad and a double cheeseburger (no bun, no catsup, no pickle) and ice water... It is possible to go to fast food - just choose right!

Stef, when I lived in the Midwest at one point we had no central air, just a window unit in our bedroom. But...we had a basement so we'd set up a fan at the top of the stairs blowing all that cool (but kinda dank) air up into the rest of the house to keep us cool!

Bren, my mom had a few other ideas on how to keep cool, like running lawn sprinklers right outside the open windows, hoping it would cool the air. In theory, it should've worked but mostly it just got my dad mad as he had to keep moving the sprinklers for her, as she was SURE tht if he just moved it a bit more to one place or the other.....well, you get the idea!

Thanks for noticing Melissa. Some days, I really can't believe it myself! It definitely FEELS different!

Trill, Papa John's is my favorite already-cooked pizza. DH is trying to decide which "Papa" pizza it will be when he passes his PT test....Murphy or John!! He's been craving the PJ one because it was our usual fare prior to Atkins.

Thersmith...that's a good idea, as most toppings are just fine for Atkins.

MCJill, you're right....at least some fast food places have some choices that can be made Atkins-friendly if you order carefully.
