Calories In Calories Out. Sounds simple, right? Maybe it is simple for some, but I see some very popular members here suggesting it’s as simple for everyone. Quality of calories matter. If you’re two weeks into your weight loss journey from 300+ pounds I think you need to focus as much on the quality of calories and not just the number of total calories. “Rather than choosing foods based only on caloric value, think instead about choosing high-quality, healthy foods, and minimizing low-quality foods.” That’s from a Harvard School of Health study, not my words. Highly processed foods like Little Caesar’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Mountain Dew do not fit your calorie profile. Go read about it yourself because I’m not about to spend my day debating this. Low satiety and highly processed foods will not help you in your journey. If you’re already fit and burning 4000 calories a day then go ahead and have your kids cereal for supper…but if you’ve been struggling for some time with your health and your weight…it’s time for a much larger change.

I’ve been eating clean for just over 100 days for crying out loud and all of a sudden I’m in the best shape of my life. I don’t think that’s a mistake.

Well, all the evidence shows that if you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight and your health markers (lipids, fasting glucose and so on) will improve. It's not about excess carbs, it's about all excess calories, and no, it's not bullshit. If you looked where all the evidence points, it's that if you are not overconsuming and losing fat, your health will improve. Carb restriction, sugar restriction not required (but fine if you get off on that) even if you are not a fitness junkie. And I don't see why you're upset with a few fit members sharing their diet. They're not saying everyone should copy them exactly. That would be like a vegan who considers clean food to be free of animal products getting upset because members like you share photos of keto bacon and eggs meals that they think are harmful to health.

Finally…take your meta analyses and shove em. I am my own study and I know the results. No one needs a scientist to analyze their own personal outcomes.

That explains it. You just started "eating clean" and obviously, you got results because you are in a calorie-restricted state. When you have been "eating clean" for three years, come back with your expertise. And wow, I had no idea there was a "fructose industry". Do you realize how paranoid that sounds?

Yeah, you don't need to be a scientist to decide what you do, but you do need to have proper evidence and understand it before you start preaching to the masses. /out (loonies who believe in a "fructose industry" cannot be reasoned with)

Why does the Corn Refiners Association have lobbyists?

You may be mute, poor Alcestis…please tell me you are not blind as well?

Ok I gotta run…the kids are hungry. Since they had a light lunch we’re serving Captain Crunch and Mountain Dew. I’m sure it’s fine because CICO…am I right?

Just so you know I’m not blind either, I just read a 2016 article (mostly) entitled Relationship between Added Sugars Consumption and Chronic Disease Factors. It basically says fructose or added sugars on their own aren’t a singular cause of metabolic disorders, however once you consume over 20% of your calories from these sugars you get into murky territory. The article also tells the backstory of demonization of egg yolks, fat, etc…leading the reader to question the validity of the claims of negative effects of fructose et al. My takeaway is that overeating added sugars has a greater chance than other elements of a diet to lead to a calorie surplus, especially in those genetically predisposed to low satiety. And there we get into another whole can of worms…many of the folks on here are most likely affected by their genetics and furthers my tirade against sugars…why make the problem worse? Anyhow…good night.

That's very nice

I agree that a diet high in added sugars and super processed food is not the best for health and longevity and is probably not going to be satiating. The point is that these popular members posting their sugary cereal and donuts aren't eating just that and are eating it in moderation, while getting the protein and nutrients they need. I also agree that really low fat diets are a bad idea. That's an area where I think pro bodybuilding has had a negative influence. Enhanced competitors can not have their hormones affected by such low fat, naturals can't. Generally, copying athletes or what looks like the fun parts of what they do, including bodybuilders, natural or not (but especially the enhanced ones...that's just stupid), is just a bad idea. The point is that if someone can eat a slice or two of pizza in a day full of lean protein, vegetables, olive oil, nuts, fruit and unrefined grains, and is losing weight and seeing their health improve, there is nothing unhealthy about that.

100% accurate, SilentAlcestis! 👍🏻

Dang, good to see the truth spreading through another knowledgeable member. Great posts Silent. A lot of people get started, have success and think their way is the best or only way to health for all. Fructose and carbs are supposedly bad yet the healthiest countries eat mostly carbs and a lot of fruit. The leanest people on the planet eat more carbs than any other macro yet the keto zealots think they are right. ..

This member shames a woman for eating pizza and had bacon in his profile pic. I'd take pizza over bacon health-wise and day.

The healthiest countries don’t eat Fruity Pebbles…smh Diablo…and shame her? I did nothing of the sort. Perhaps your over indulgence in sugar is affecting your mental capacity?
24 Oct 21 by member: HK3
Go look at her last four days of eating and tell me she doesn’t need some tough love. I wish her all the best…and pizza ain’t it.
24 Oct 21 by member: HK3
I checked on her today…she did much better, by the way.

Bacon isn't either. It's ok man, I understand, I was a noob once 21 years ago. You'll learn how nutrition works one day.

“Throughout the body, excess sugar is harmful. Even a single instance of elevated glucose in the bloodstream can be harmful to the brain, resulting in slowed cognitive function and deficits in memory and attention.”

Post the link the scientific link. Or is that verbal diarrhea from Dr. Fung?
