Suzie Blue's Journal, 26 April 2009

Sooo... today was the marathon, I actually applied for it a few years ago kinda glad I didn't get in because the couple of 5mile runs I've done in the past were hard enough. Although saying that I am doing 10km Race for Life in July.
Been out running the last two nights, nothing major just up round the block then walking through the park because I take one of the dogs with me (my dad said she needs the exercise lol) I'm basically trying to build my stamina up because of wanting to join the T.A and having already failed to do the 1.5mile run in 14minutes once I wanna crack it next time, plus I've recently had a sprained ankle sooo rather then doing a straight run I pick an object in the distance and aim for it, take a short walk then pick a new target... each night my first target gets a little further away therefore eventually I'll make the route longer.
I may actually be in danger of causing myself another injury though as my calves hurt like hell, or maybe it's just the muscles stratching! I've had a cool shower in an attempt to relax them though.

Now gonna stop babbling and log off!

Good luck on making the T.A. next time. Yep, good thing you didn't do the marathon. It would have been long, frustrating, & painful if you haven't built up the stamina for it. I've been running for about a year now and still don't have a desire to do a marathon yet. Next week I hope to do a half marathon, so we'll how that goes. So take your time and listen to your body when you want to push harder. The last thing you want to do is deal with pain while you're running.

Thanks... fingers crossed I pass the next recruitment selection I attend I never use to even run for a bus, now I try to do a little as often as I can I actually kinda like the pain, although obviously I don't want another injury... The aches and pains to me are a constant reminder that I'm achieving something Good luck with your half marathon

I'm not sure if your calves are still hurting now or not, but it might be because you're running on the pavement? I can't run outside unless I'm on a track, because they have a little "give" to them, you know? I ususally just use a treadmill with an incline, because the pavement is just too hard on my legs. I have some knee issues though, that contribute to that. Anyway, its just a thought. Also, if you aren't used to it, you can get shin splints. I walk to work, about 2.25 miles each way, and the hills involved caused shin splints for about the first week. So maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, hope your legs are feeling better!
