Back from camping! Actually we cut it short and got home yesterday in the evening. Wow, what a trip. Some good, some not. We packed up and left yesterday because the winds became gale force winds! I'd swear, anyway.

I just checked and they are issuing high wind warnings, especially along the I-40 corridor. We camped off a dirt road about 20 miles south of I-40 and YES, it was windy. Thought we'd lose our tents and canopy for sure. It was windy the entire time, but it kept picking up speed and got to the point where a campfire would be out of the question. When we got up yesterday in the morning, it was still windy from the night before. We decided we'd pack up and go home since it was doubtful the winds would die down.

Wow, it was difficult doing all that in the wind! Took a couple hours, maybe more, to get it all taken down and packed up. It would help if we didn't have to play Tetrus whenever we go camping - finding the right spot for every piece of equipment in my old little Jimmy. Even with a cargo carrier on the back, still pretty cramped in there. We're girls, we have to take everything for comfort! I love camping, out in the woods, not in campsites, but dispersed camping. BUT... we take air mattresses and pillows! lol... I love it, but I'm not stupid.

To make things even more interesting on this first camping trip of the season, we got a flat tire. On the dirt road, probably a good 15 or 20 miles from the highway. Just me, my daughter and her girlfriend. Fortunately, this happened once when my husband and I were camping, so I had an idea of what to do. And thank God, there was the instruction laminated sheet where the jack was. But it was still a challenge - had to take everything off the cargo carrier in the back and a few things from inside the truck to get to the jack. And the girls were the ones to crawl under the truck for the spare tire. The most difficult part of the whole thing? Putting the flat tire back into the spare tire spot. I have an old truck, think it's a '96? Anyway, it has one of those spare tire locks with a free-floating rod that has to go into a lug nut hole in the rim and then crank it back up. Guess that was a bitch getting that thing in the hole since it was free-floating. Anyway, I'd run over a wrench, apparently. These are new truck tires - not more than six months old, I'm sure. But the wrench went right between the tread. Hopefully covered with road hazard or something. Anyway, thank God there was air in the spare! The rest of the trip, all I could think of was, I sure hope we don't get another flat since I don't have a spare now.

Anyway, glad we went. The first trip of the season always seems difficult. This one was no exception! But hey, three women made it, so there~! lol Diet? hahahaha... didn't follow a diet while I was gone. Back to it tomorrow, though. Today is sort of a blah day. Need to get back into the swing of things. Still tired, I think.

Haha, sounds like a fun and exciting adventure indeed! Nice job ladies on the flat tire! We had to learn how to change a tire before passing driver's ed in school but nothing quite prepares you for having to get up under the truck when you're going for the spare. (Been there too) I heard once that calories don't count when you're with girlfriends. :D Tomorrow is a new day and back to it but everyone has to have their share of fun, too. Glad you had yours. Have a good week, RWLBSWWTALIATPP! <3 BTW, I have a consultation with my own artist scheduled for April 4th. :)

Hi rwl! Camping, huh?! How fun! You really do enjoy life in all aspect! Have a restful evening and brand new Monday is waiting for you. Did I tell you that you're so talented in your writing? So fun to read your journals and hope you write it everyday!:)

That sounds like quite the adventure and the best part......you did it all by yourselves. It feels good when we are able to take care of these things all by ourselves, doesn't it? Now if you ever have another flat, you'll know exactly what to do! How awesome is that? And yes those under the vehicle tires are a pain in the tookus. My big old van is like that, and the jack that came with it isn't strong enough to lift it so we have to carry a 10,000 hydraulic jack around in the back, just in case. The last time I had a flat, I got it done, but wow, what a chore! I am proud of you!!!! Glad that you had such a great girl's weekend, even though it was cut short. It has been really windy here too, and although it was close to 80 today, by Thursday they are taling about lows in the 20's again! As much as I love winter, by the time it is over, I am ready for spring. lol I am glad that you enjoyed yourself and tomorrow is a great day to get back at it! Love ya, D...have a wonderful week! <3<3<3<3<3<3 xoxoxoxo

Oh man you sound as if you had quite an adventure...I am glad you are back home safely. What great memories you are making. The camping trips with the flat tires and terrible weather conditions are usually the most memorable, at least they have been for me. Towanda!!!!

Hey Youngbug! Cannot WAIT to hear how the consult goes. Hope you're not as humiliated as I felt standing there! lol... But all worth it in the end. Every second of it! Anyway, I never had to learn to change a tire - new experience for me. Thank God for girls that don't mind getting dirty! Yuck. Nice to be home, though. It's most likely snowing there right now. If not, just rain.

Hi Happy! You're too kind! And yes, I love most things outdoors. Well, except for things that might kill me (snowboarding! skiing, lol!) Love to get away, can't wait until some other roads are opened up again. I need to go camping with my husband! He needs some relaxation time.

Hi ctlss! Yes, the under the truck ones are a pain, but it wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't have that damn wheel lock. That was the part that was trying tempers. But yes, it does feel good knowing I can do it if I have to. Now... need to get that tire fixed. Of COURSE we didn't buy road hazard warranty! I think that is the beauty of seasons...by the time you get sick of one, another one is usually rolling around. But here? We seem to have "winter" and summer. Or hell. Whichever. lol

Hi Lisa! Yes, I think you're on to something there! My daughter and I took a camping trip to the White Mountains by ourselves. Turned out there were having red flag warnings for wind - but after driving 4 - 5 hours, there was no turning back! BUT... I'm an idiot and my mom used to say that God looks after drunks and idiots. We camped in a beautiful spot - lovely giant evergreen trees all around us. Some over 150' tall. Absolutely beautiful. Wind kept picking up and I didn't sleep much at all. Kept hearing this strange cracking noise and soft booms. Finally realized those were TREES falling. OMG, I kid you not. When we got up in the morning and took a look around - there were 17 trees down within a very short radius of our tent site! And one of them fell across the road. Luckily, we were able to get out the other direction. My daughter took a picture of me next to the root ball of that tree - which was taller than I am! Scary stuff. Didn't really think that one through! I won't do that again. Another camping trip with my husband - I was in charge of packing everything up and checking the weather. Well, everything was loaded up and ready to go when I found a storm was coming in. I didn't tell my husband about it, thinking there was only a "chance" of it - how often are these weather men right, you know? BIG mistake. The storm came in overnight - rained so hard you couldn't see five feet in front of you. And overnight the lightening and thunder kept getting closer and closer. My husband finally woke up when it was practically overhead and was... a little upset with me for not knowing it was coming. hahaha... Packed up the next day - IN the driving rain. Wet, muddy trip- including a leak in the tent. Yep, lots of camping stories and most of them have to do with challenges!

You & your husband are so blessed to have each other.. and since I know you more than I know him, he's the luckiest!!! I often think it is too bad that we don't live close enough to share a glass of wine together once in awhile.. after having a *short* walk in our kill heels... Have a happy Monday evening my friend!:)

Some day soon, Lily! I usually go to So Cal a couple times per year. I'd love to put on my heels and go out for a nice glass of wine sometime. Know of any cute wine bars in your area?
