I never understood why people look at carbs as a "bad" thing...they fill you up! Sounds like your new plan should work out for you, BUT, if you're a runner, don't you think you should be feeding your body more calories? I've always thought that eating under 1200 calories a day would put your body into starvation mode. Have you heard of calorie cycling?

No what is calorie cycling? I calculated my RDI based on this article from Runner's World: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-304-310-7771-0,00.html It says: "To estimate your daily calorie needs for maintaining your current weight, take your present weight and multiply by 13. That number covers your metabolic needs for the day, factoring in a bit of light activity. So if you weigh 180 pounds, you need about 2,340 calories per day. To lose a pound a week, you must then create a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day (3,500 calories equals one pound)." But I think you are right - when I run I need more calories, maybe 1200 (cos I'm still trying to loose 8lbs?), but for a lazy, working on my computer all day it should be no more than 900.

Sent ya a PM because FS won't let me paste the url here! I'm lazy and sit at a computer all day, too, but never dip below 1100 unless I'm sick. I usually just try to keep a 500 calorie deficit, which can be done with more exercise. Are you factoring "desk work" into your exercise journal?

Hey I don't mean to "butt" in but I noticed your discussion on calorie cycling. We discussed this topic here and I bet there are some good information that you may find helpful. http://fatsecret.com/Community.aspx?pa=fp&t=54146 Tubbs thoughts are correct. Daily intake lower than 1200 calories is typically not recommended due to the "starvation" mode mentioned above but also long term health issues that could stem from a constant deprivation. I am not a dietician by any means but that is one of the major points that was brought up during personal training certification. Anyways - I hope that link helps! Sorry again for butting in!

I am not sure how to set the link in here????...but if you search for "calorie cycling", Rosalyn (dslykim) had an entry on it.
