True, and I'm stuck with British chow hall food, I have gotten creative finding healthy-ish protein though. Just wish I had some variety

MREs have come a long way in the past 20+ years...some of them actually aren't all that bad, depending on how hungry you are.

I understand and feel for you, when we 3ACR first hit Iraq in 2003 that is all we had the for 45 days before we had a hot meal.

When I got there in July '03, we had hot meals, but they were UGRs. After a couple of days, I was almost begging for an MRE.

Do they still put that oatmeal cookie bar that turns your poop green in MREs? I used to love those. (So either they were really good like I remember, or my eating issues back then were worse than I thought lol)

You mean the ones that look like magic erasers from school? I haven't seen those since '95.

Plus I think MRE's have what about 4000 calories per one meal. UGRs are not that great either but we actully [paid a local for a whole cooked chicken and potatos and it was delicious

Load, YEP! That's the ones I was talking about.
I didnt eat an MRE from 1994-2005, and when I ate a lot of the 2005+ ones, I never saw that cookie again. They DO have 4000+ calories from what I remember from our post-hurricane MREs.

We had the locals bringing us lamb and the flatbread. The public health folks were up in arms about that, but I figured as long as I didn't eat the fresh veggies. Besides, that fresh food was delicious! Yes, the MREs are packed full of bowel-clogging calories. We had a guy on one deployment eating at least 2 a day...could hear him getting fatter.

MREs are a little less now unless you get the first strike ones, they have a lot. No oatmeal bars I've seen. Last time I ate MREs for any period of time I didn't crap for a week! I would like some local food but haven't yet, maybe next week though.
