Debbie Cousins's Journal, 11 February 2021

Down another pound this morning. Got in my 8 cups of water yesterday and had a good BM. Those two things really seem to help! I've been excruciatingly bored lately. Mostly, I just sit in my recliner all day, getting up only to go to the bathroom and to do a (very little) bit of cooking or tidying up the kitchen. There are many other things I COULD (and should) be doing around the house, but I have little interest in actually doing them. I've got a basket of clean laundry sitting on the couch that has been there for almost three weeks. The house isn't really "messy" but it is not at all "clean." ho-hum. Maybe I'll go back to bed and try to wake up in a more motivated frame of mind. I doubt it will work, but at least it will fill the time for an hour or so, speeding up the time before I can go back to bed tonight. I'm not really depressed -- just BORED!

Make a list of easy easy chores that you can do to music and find music that motivates you. And after you check off a chore take a break you’ll slowly accomplish stuff and feel better and maybe not so tired. My mom always made a list a day to accomplish not that she always did though. I was born a list maker, even at work I check off my list or I’ll forget to do something. It feels great to accomplish a list. Congratulations on your loss and have a great Thursday!👍🌺

I discovered I enjoy putting puzzles together. Find a spot to set one up & you always have something to occupy you for a few minutes. Take a walk...even a short one can cheer you up. Rearrange your home decor. Switch out your throw pillows...redo your mantel...add some flowers to your kitchen or dining room table.

I have had a long running to do list and finally decided to pick one thing at a time. I think about that task and question myself what is blocking me from accomplishing it. Then I recognize myself for even the tiniest success. It’s starting to work and things are getting checked off

Have you tried exercise. I know it is not for everybody but it can help break up things. Maybe you could enjoy some of those walking with Leslie videos on You Tube. She is very enthusiastic and there are different lengths to them 10 minutes to half and hours or so. They are easy to do. In my opinion (but I am not an expert) if you are not doing tasks and you want to sleep more it is more than being bored. Try to lift yourself up ... something I tell myself every day.

Hi cousin Debbie! It feels like forever! I keep trying to come back but I don't ever make it for more than a meal or two. I'm sorry you are so bored! I hate being bored! I'm just gonna break stuff if I am, so you better keep me occupied lol. I gained a bunch of weight, fell about a million times, broke some bones, and my appendix ruptured and went septic! How in earth I could be bored after doing all of that is one of the great mysteries of life. We also took in a renter. You are as always my inspiration and it was an easy choice to make. He is very kind and helps me by driving me to doctors appointments. I really want to get back to losing but just haven't been able to care. 😞 Hope you feel better soon!

Nice to know there are some other bored people out there. I'm SOOO bored that, on my daily Bible reading plan (which gets you through the whole Bible in one year), I am already up to the June 1st reading!!! I used to play ScrabbleGo online, but I quit doing that around the 1st of the year. I just went and marinated the steaks for my husband's birthday tomorrow, and I made some Jasmine, Red & Wild Rice in the Instant Pot. Oh, and I unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and sanitized the kitchen counters. That's about it for the day; but I only have to survive until 4pm, when we have dinner, because from that time on, I watch a program on TV with my husband. I go to BED between 6-6:30pm, just so the long days will be over.

maybe you could do some volunteer work? Something you are passionate about? Maybe something by phone or on line. Just a suggestion, I'm gearing up to retire and I know myself that if I don't have something on the schedule then I will get antsy... I am thinking of volunteering for the food bank they need help these days I'm sure. (when I stop working I work f/t now).

I feel you: I took a sick day from work to lay in bed all day Monday and do nothing. I love SherryeB’s idea of a jigsaw puzzle. I would do that. It’s not productive (not chores or bettering myself) but when I put puzzles together, it keeps me focused and motivated. Especially if I can listen to the radio or a podcast at the same time.

I understand, maybe it is something in the "air" right now! I"m not bored but just not motivated to do much of anything and I do have things I need to do. My clean clothes has been on my bed for 2 weeks. Finally got it put away. I had to move a mattress to my front room so it would be warmer than my bedroom. Only have space heater. But tomorrow I'll be moving back to sleep in my bedroom. Finally warmed up here in FL and my kids & grands will be here for the weekend.

When you're feeling bored, try doing something for someone else. Make a nice casserole dinner for an elderly person; run errands for someone who can't; visit a nursing home with fresh-baked cookies.
