Meal 1
12.00 Omelette with sardines + Greek yogurt with goose berries (thanks Buffybear!)

I think I'm going to take Omega 3 supplements because I can't get the right ratio no matter how hard I try. Right now my ratio is about 3:1... Which is good actually (Hunter-gatherers had about 2:1 to 4:1 while Inuits had 1:4 - Industrial populations have an average of 16:1) ( link ) . Maybe I don't need supplements after all. :D

The omelette with sardines actually tasted better than I thought it would. :p

14.00 Jasmine Green Tea
15.00 1/2 Cup whole milk

17.00 (snack) Small piece of 99% cocoa chocolate

The taste is so strong it takes 5-10 minutes to eat a piece of 3 grams :p so it's a good thing to eat if you're just bored and not hungry

19.00 "Spaghetti"

Went home and saw my parents made spaghetti, and I love spaghetti! But I can't have the pasta, especially when it's not whole wheat. So my first idea was to make a "spaghetti sauce burrito", using the recipe for cream cheese pancakes since it tastes like egg anyways. 1 tbsp of cream cheese, 1 egg, little bit of salt, lots of pepper, pilipili, oregano, thyme, basil, etc. mix it all together and bake it like a pancake/burrito. Unfortunately it wasn't firm enough so I couldn't make a 'burrito' so the only thing I could come up with was to cut it in long thin pieces, like pasta. It actually tasted great! (if you're on a low-carb/LCHF/Atkins/primal/keto/... diet).

21.00 1 tbsp of peanut butter

Small victory: I was offered a pizza and I said no! Yay!

Remember what I said about cod oil capsules? here's more problems with that lol: http://tinyurl.com/78t5tz I think that, if you can stomach fish, you have no problems in getting enough omega 3 without the omega 6. I admit that the taste is really not pleasant (at least for me lol). One 90 g can of sardines apparently gives you 1.5 g of Omega 3 with only 0.1 g of omega 6. Oh yeah, the eggs definitely are a great way of disguising the sardines's taste heheh. Eggs have cholesterol but since there's controversy on that lol... Lemon juice and onions also help disguising the taste ;)

I usually eat the sardines with fried eggs but, now that I think of it, the omelette is probably better tasting alternative!

Ahah, the chocolate! :) Don't get addicted to it though! lol

I also have to try new recipes. I never get to it lol...

My mom is Asian, so I'm used to "weird" meals - canned sardines in tomato sauce with lemon actually was one of my favorite things to eat as a kid! And I won't get addicted to the chocolate, I never feel like taking a second piece because it's so strong! :p You're right about the cholesterol, it's the same as sat fats, animal protein, etc. All these diets are like religions, and the doctors supporting it are like priests :') Anyhow, the next time I'm buying eggs I'll go for omega 3-enriched eggs. I'd buy grassfed meat if I could (higher in omega 3) but that stuff's expensive and I'd have to travel by train, no one sells it where I live :p

I don't feel like taking my multivitamins anymore after reading that article lol

Ahah "weird" meals :)). Wow! What a coincidence! I eat that all the time lol! I just wish it was also my favorite! heheh It's sometimes not easy for me to eat it. I mean, the more lemon juice in it, the best. It can almost disguise the taste of the sardines but still, it seems that there is some flavor that could be added heheh. Yeah, that amount is definitely enough to make you feel full :). That is true about grass-fed meet unfortunately. It's very expensive. Here even non-grass-fed beef is expensive (reason why I will usually go for the chicken breast lol). But hey :P ... If you do get omega-3-enriched eggs you can avoid having to eat sardines every day. I usually try to eat sardines most days of the week because of the omega 3. I thought I was on to something with the walnuts but the omega-6 in them is kind of worrying me. I've eaten 2 instead of one today which supposedly guarantees lots of omega-3 but also much more omega-6 and that is apparently not very good so I will probably start to go easy on them :)

Transportation is always a factor in food choices, unfortunately :P

You could always try sending letters to the shops near you asking them to start selling grass-fed meet lol. Try making a petition ahaha ;)

Regarding the multi-vitamins, there may be a chance that it's not giving you that same amount of vitamin A than fish oil capsules since the amount in those capsules is really colossal, besides the fact that it's the animal version of the vitamin A, as opposed to the vegetable version we synthesize from Beta carotene which is not toxic in excess. I guess it's a matter of comparing the quantities of vitamin A in both multi-vitamins and the fish oil capsules, and also checking whether the type of vitamin A is animal of vegetable :)

Regarding both the multi-vitamins and the fish oil capsules. They both go against one of my main guidelines which is, eat natural. I know I may be wrong but, many times in the recent past, I've seen cases of apparently beneficial processed foods (or pills or capsules in this case) that will hurt you because our bodies are used to take the food in that specific way and anything out of the ordinary can have unpredictable consequences at least when used in a continuous fashion. Of course that, when someone has a marked imbalance of a substance, these processed means can definitely help you (the case illustrated by the fish oil case with the kids in England for example) but, for someone who has a balanced nutrition, I always fear they may create other problems. Another recent case of that "processed" trend was fruit juice. One of the best examples that, the simplest tampering with food such as removing part of it (the juice, in this case) can turn a health power-house into a health "destroyer" :P. I'm always worried about that with foods that don't come "intact" in their original packages. Even not knowing much about nutrition, it's probably difficult to go wrong by eating food that's the less altered :P This is just me thinking out loud on that matter heheh.

Taking into account that our objective is to get the omega-3 out of sardines, we should also pay attention to this: "Easily destroyed by heat: Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, Thiamine, Folate, Omega 3 fats."; "...Tips to preserve nutritional value of food: Cook oily fish over a medium temperature until just cooked to help preserve the integrity of the omega 3 fats. Oven bake rather than fry...". Here's the article http://tinyurl.com/nsvhz4j

Maybe one solution is to throw in the sardines after the eggs are cooked :P lol.

haha the more you read about nutrients the more complicated it gets! :')

Or just fry the omelette at a lower temperature and wait a bit longer til it's finished ^^
08 Feb 14 by member: doublecheese
Definitely Doublecheese! The more I read about it, the less I seem to think I know lol :) That is a good suggestion about the lower temperature. My doubt is whether there is low "enough" :P
