are you avoiding wheat and sugar for a specific reason? I am diabetic and looking for something to help my sugar levels...getting no help from dieticians so far! any advice? thanks!

The reason I am avoiding it is because of a visit to a Sho-tai practitioner. I am doing this for 6 weeks as a type of cleanse. I also gave up aspartame (diet coke) a couple days before I saw him. I would like to be able to continue avoiding this stuff but for me personally I don't think that's sustainable (except the aspartame ....won't ever touch it again.) I will shoot to find a balance though ..... This has made me eat more fruits and veggies so I think if I continue that I can keep the overall sugar and wheat intAke a lot lower. The reason for my initial visit to him was because I have excema on my eyes (bad) and neck. Everyone just hands you cortisone cream which thins the skin. I believe excema shows up because there is an imbalance in your body ....it's an auto immune thing so I an sure I can either cure it Or control it with diet. Hope that helps? P.s. People that know me never thought I would ever give up diet coke. I lived on that stuff and only drank water when working out.

Thanks! I am trying to find wheat alternatives to avoid spikes in blood sugar. No one is listening when I talk to them and they keep trying to give me 45 carbs per meal to eat. this keeps my sugar up and that is annoying!! I am trying to do my own thing to control my numbers. Just interested in finding out how others do it! What do you eat for meals if you are having no wheat? I know some eat rice, but, I cannot sub rice due to high carbs. I cannot fill up on fruit either due to the natural sugars in them. I can eat about 2 servings a day of fruit, if my sugar is running in the normal range.

I hope this might be helpful but I am extremely picky so it is kinda hard because I have a very small list of foods I will eat. I've been eating things like: quinoa(which is nice as a rice substitute and I think it's low in carbs. )They also make rice pasta but not sure how that is for a diabetic. Oatmeal is good high protein option. I only eat chicken and fish as meat. I will have tuna in a bowl sometimes for lunch with no mayo. Little hard to choke down tho lol. I fill up on veggies as much as I can. I also eat plain rice cakes (and flavoured as a treat). I went to an organic food store and found some soup....little more expensive but allowed me to have something different. I tried the pizza from the store but it was pretty gross. I cook egg whites and hAve them as a snack. I don't eAt sweet potatoes but they might be something you can have. Sorry if some of this isn't diabetic friendly but I'm not quite as in tune with it. No wheat and no sugar together isn't fun (can't even put salad dressing on a salad) and obviously not sustainable for me due to a lack of foods but I will definitely try to continue cutting out the wheat and just lowering my sugar intake. Hope this helped a little bit?
