The personal trainer I'm working with recommended monitoring heart rate while working out. Naturally, he wanted to sell me what they had in stock at the gym. I decided to forego that option and do some more research. It was a close tie between the Suunto M5 and the t6D. I picked up a Suunto M5 thinking I don't need the t-series. Got it yesterday and it was REALLY easy to set up. Used it last night and this morning on the bike and will use it today during circuit training at the gym. Very cool device - even lets you create an exercise program specific to your goals and reminds you what you need to do for the day. Goal heart rates are set in order to help you exercise more efficiently and it recommends a recovery period before your next session. I can already tell in my last two workouts that it's going to help push me more to where I need to be.

I thought the same thing regarding the sell when our trainer recommended a heart rate monitor. But, its been an integral part of the last month and a half or so for me. Being able to see how many calories you are burning and what your actual heart rate is during interval training can be very motivating.
