redwinelover's Journal, 24 October 2010

Hi buddies....first time I've even been able to be upright enough to type. I appreciate all of you and your well wishes, and especially "my" klannoye" (yes, I'm claiming her!) for being the relay. I just read her updates and think she's trying to protect any poor fool out there that is contemplating this surgery. "some" pain, a "little" pain...HA! I can't even describe the pain, holy shit, it was so intense. I hurt everywhere form my shoulders on town to mid thigh. Seriously. And though I'm in no position to get on a scale, I'm pretty sure I have a good 15 - 20 pounds more on me than before. So much swelling - butt, hips, thighs... wow, feels like a bubble butt!

Today is slightly better, although coughing is the worst. Oh, and one of the drains in the lower groin area - holy shit! That one is killing me, so standing up is so painful. Will it be worth it? Uh...YES. Wow. What a difference. The doctor seemed to be beaming with pride in his work! lmao... I think he even surprised himself with what a great job he did. Oh, anyone even considering this - be prepared for some of the most intense pain most of us will hopefully ever experience, and whatever you do, don't have it done with a bit of congestion. It was a long surgery, 9 hrs. so that's a helluva lot of anesthesia to go under. The pre-op part was good. Really nice nurse with the info and charts and stuff, funny, great-hearted. The doc came is and was almost funny in his demeanor - dropped a lot of the super seriousness. The anesthesiologist was super nice - very comforting and we ended up joking a bit. He left, went to go get the doc back for the lovely "marking" (they use actual sharpies!) and I sent hubby on to work. Really no need for him to stick around for that part. As he's marking me up, he's telling me (AGAIN!) how thin and saggy and irregular my skin is, that I don't have a fat problem, just lots of skin - but not particularly stretchy skin. I said - I take it ALL plastic surgeons are brutally honest?! And he said, Yeah, probably. But we just don't tear you apart, tell you what's wrong and then leave things that way. I think he got a kick out of my honesty. So I was laughing and not really even nervous after I'd been there a few minutes, then the anesthesiologist came in and put in the iv (he was impressive!) and then a bit of drugs and that's all I really remember. I think I remembered trying to talk in the recovery area- to husband and son. Then I was at the recovery center with Dumb and Dumber. More on those two schitzo's on another journal.

Well, I DO want to thank all of you that asked about me -klannoye is the sweetest. I'll read those letters in my inbox, but since the lovely drugs are kicking in, I may not be able to type back yet. All I want to do is sleep and clear my lungs, but those are two diametrical forces! Thanks again!

SO glad to see you back. Just sleep and heal. I'm sure you'll be very happy you've done this once the pain goes away. Hugs!!!

Oh, RWL, I am so glad to see you back. And yes the pain is extreme. Sorry for not conveying it to you better, but I didn't want to scare you, since it could have been that I have a lower threshold. You will be sore for a while, but trust me, it will be much better soon, and you will truly be pleased with the results. Get some rest, dear friend, and we will talk soon.
