Confession time: I really love McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwiches.

My mom was and is very health-conscious. (Yay, mom! I am sincerely grateful.) When my sister and I were growing up, she fixed healthy food, or in some cases what was then considered healthy food -- whole-wheat bread, lots of whole grains, wheat germ, lean meat, ground beef with the fat poured off, TVP and tofu, only low-fat dairy products, margarine instead of butter, no pizza, almost no pasta, that kind of thing -- and we never kept junk food or candy in the house.

Therefore fast food was a rare treat for my sister and me. When we went to McDonald's or Jack in the Box (anyone remember "Jack will speak to you"?), we weren't generally allowed to order French fries, and mom always strongly encouraged us to get the Filet-O-Fish (or Jack's equivalent) instead of a hamburger. So I must have imprinted on the things. I still love them, to this very day, when I had one for lunch!

I do have to caveat my "no junk food" statement: We had candy at Easter, Halloween, and Christmas, and potato chips and corn chips on the major barbecuing holidays. My upbringing was at least semi-"normal" in that respect. ;)

DH loves those too.. bring him one..wouldja? Any restaurant food was a treat in my childhood but not for health reasons just too costly. I'm still stunned when I see huge families all dining out and calculate the estimate tab.

I know what you mean!!! And it's appalling to me how the role of fast food has changed in our culture -- now it's a lifestyle. :P

Oh, and as for a McD's F-o-F for DH, where should I FedEx it? ;)

LOL - FedEx it to DH in c/o Bellawood.... would probably get here faster than me going to pick one up for him. Yeah, when DH & I first married it was a big deal to go to Red Lobster for dinner - and I'd look at those tables with 9-10 people and think 'how in the heck do they afford this?' I guess I'm just in the wrong line of work.
