gug's Journal, 12 October 2008

I got up early this morning to go to the hotel gym. Food wise, I did well also. Breakfast-2 glasses of orange juice, 1 apple. Not the best choice, I know, but at least I didn't have the toast, donuts, cereal etc. Lunch-salmon with veggies. Good choice I think. Dinner- seafood again (shrimp & lobster tail) with veggies. I would love a glass of wine tonight, but I will resist and say "no" because I am serious about this diet.

Sounds like you are doing well for being away from home. The wine is hard for me too. I love to have a glass while I fix dinner each night but it adds 180 calories for 6oz which is almost 20% of my daily goal. Don't want to do it every night!

I'm sure they were the best choices you had available. But be careful with the juice first thing in the am with the blood sugars.... you deal with that, correct? Was thinking even a slice of sourdough or whole wheat with p. butter or cream cheese would at least give you some proteins? The rest the day looks GREAT! :) The am's were made to be very important to me about the sugars for the day, though. Glad to see you take cinnamon!! Do you notice that it makes a difference on your sugars? I don't take it w/insulin resistance, but I do have it in my protein shakes! Gosh, I'm thinking... would they maybe have yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast choices? It's a tough one on trips, I know!

Sounds like the trip is going well. Exercise and good food at what I am imagining as wonderful restaurants with ocean views! Losing weight, getting healthy, making good choices.. AND have a great vacation!! Sounds perfect to me.

Thanks for the advise everyone. BT that is a good idea about peanut butter. I should have asked for it. I'm sure they keep it on hand for kids, I just didn't see it. Breakfast is always hard for me when we travel. I don't like to go to a restaurant when the hotel offers a breakfast buffet. I know orange juice is not a good thing for a diabetic, but I just couldn’t say “no” . Tomorrow I’ll try to resist. I have been taking cinnamon ever since I found out that I have diabetes and I think it helps.

Really you did very well for a buffet. With all those things laid out it would have been too easy to choose something REALLY bad. Good job!

Not bad having to "settle" for shrimp and lobster :D Great resolve to forego the wine. I can tell you mean business!
