Thank you for all the comments on my 500 calories per day, but if you look at my diet calender, I'm not doing so hot at it. My caloric intake is still low, the highest day is 911, the lowest was 4 something - 1 day. My daily caloric intake average in September was 661, in October, it's 784. I havent agreed with everything the Medi clinic has said, but I've agreed with some. I have also been worried about my body deciding to try to reduce my metabolism due to lack of fuel vs burn it efficiently. I also was a nurse in a past life, but strongly disagree with the AMA and AHA consider a healthy diet. I remeber on Atkins years ago, I was hungry often but did rather well losing weight. I also remember the plateaus. At medi I talk to a nurse evey week, take supplements, get vitamins B1, B6, B12, some amino's and some minerals in injection form. I wish that I could send you all a sample week 1 menu, but I'm afraid to, first, its copywrited, second, I don't know how to insert a picture in a message here. :( After week 1 it's less restrictive but still pretty strict. You can have a very low calorie snack but no more than 3 per week. My primary will not deal with weight, he referred me to Medi when I had talked to him about my concerns and we had an abnormal EKG.

Sample week 1 - Day 1 - 2 eggs -OR- 2 oz ham -OR- Whey Protein Shake. _AND_ 3 oz tuna -And- 3 oz chicken breast with dry BBQ sauce.

Day 2 - 3/4 cup low-fat cottage cheese -AND- 3 oz hamburger with mustard - And- 3oz cod with lemon juice and parsley and Whey Protein shake.

Sample snacks (no more than 3/week) 5 celery sticks with 1 tbsp peanut butter - 100 calories.
-OR-
1/4 cup berries with 1/3 cup low fat cottage cheese (2% milk fat) - 60 calories
-OR-
1/2 oz almonds - 85 calories

Like I say every day, I am only following reasonably well as I dont' want to starve! I do however want to be healthy. I eat cottage cheese every day, I don't do low fat dressings as they increase carbs, I learned that years ago from Atkins, but I did Atkins when it was the yellow book and fruits and veggies were tabu.

Thank you for all your posts. Your comments are appreciated and your advice is welcome any time.

I weigh in every Thursday and counsel with a Nurse Practicioner.

Desirable Fat Range 21% - 33%

Day 21 Fat 45.3 % BMI 37.8 Water 93.6 lbs Fat 106.01 lbs

I don't really put much consideration to the water, day 1 my appointment was at about 11:00 and I hadn't eaten anything and not had more than a cup or two of coffee. Day 21, my appointment was at 6 PM and I had consumed a gallon of water. The good thing was that I had lost 12 lbs of FAT!

Well I'm not one that commented on lack of your calories, mostly because I don't have any idea how medi weight loss system works. I would agree however that a reduction of calories too low can reduce your metabolism. My doctor has warned me agaisnt yo-yo-ing because I am hypothyroid and that also ruins metabolism. I would suggest you check with your doctor to see what he/she has to say about your diet, if you haven't already done that.

Your chart looks very good, but I don't think that I would be happy with that few calories. I see that you also exercise. You're doing FANTASTIC! We are going to do great on this cruise, buddy.

I do not know much at all about this kind of diet. Sorry. I would also question the validity of such a low calorie range. I was under the impression that staying below 1000 calories tells our bodies that we are starving and to reserve all the fat it can, not burn it?? =S I have seen people on far more calories lose weight like crazy, too. Personally, I believe sticking to veggies, lean meat (in limitations), and fruits gives our bodies the fuel they need to function properly and still lose weight. I'm sorry to be tossing out 'advice', but have you considered a diet that has a bit more calories with emphasis on eat good calories and getting some walking or other exercise in? I just think that eating below 1000 calories and having plateaued the past week or so, shows that it's not working the way they want it to. I agree w/Janelleas, talk to your doc about this, and see what he/she says. I'm glad to have ya as a buddy on our cruise, and I'm sure you'll find a way that works well for ya! I'm excited to see you start dropping them lbs! :)
