This article Can You Be Fat but Fit? by Peg Rosen was waiting for me when I clocked in after my lunch run. What a nice confirmation of something that I've also wondered about.

I've always been bigger than the other kids, but just as active and just as good at sports. Even now, I am more active than some of my skinnier counterparts yet I'm not skinny. I can drop pounds by cutting out certain food groups and reducing calories to 1200 per day. But that's a diet, not a lifestyle change. The moment I start eating correct portion sizes the weight loss is over and I start gaining slowly.

So, I'm not going to accept any arguments to the contrary. I am going to keep doing what I'm doing. I'm seeing changes in my shape almost daily. No need to care what the scale says right now.

according to and artical I read the other day increasing your intake of iodine will help you lose weight and the USDA for iodine is about 50 x to low, spirilinia ? spelling is a good scorce of iodine. Going to try it after the 1 of the month see if it helps.

Spirulina supplements is basically dried, packed ocean sea weed. It's literally also used as fish food. If you want to take the pills go for it, but the best way to get iodine is naturally in what you eat. Instead of supplements, why not try something real? Some foods you could incorporate into your diet that are naturally high in iodine are ocean fish, actual seaweed and kelp, and salt. Take it easy on the salt though. You will actually GAIN weight because you'll start retaining water. In my opinion..you shouldn't need pills and supplements to get and be healthy. You can find all of the things you need in what mother nature provides to you. (but that's it's own argument)

OCEAN FISH AND SEAWEED ARE FINE ACCORDING TO WHAT I'VE READ KELP IS NOT THAT HIGH IN IODINE AND IODIZED SALT IS A LAUGH IT HAS HARDLY ANY EFFECT ON IODINE LEVELS SEA SALT IS BETTER BECAUSE IT AT LEAST HAS TRACE MINERALS IN IT.DON'T LOOK FOR IODINE IN LAND VEGGIES BECAUSE THE SOIL HAS BEEN SO DEPLETED OF IODINE AND THE CHEMICALS THAT ARE PUT INTO THE SOIL TO CONTROL WEED LIKE ROUND-UP BINDS UP WHAT LITTLE IS LEFT. IF YOU CAN FIND AN ORGANIC GARDENER OR GROW YOUR OWN AND COMPOST AND USE FISH MEAL YOU MIGHT FAIR BETTER. WISH I WAS HEALTHY ENOUGH TO REALLY HAVE A GARDEN INSTEAD OF JUST TOMATO PLANT AND A GREEN BEAN TOWER TO GROW POLE BEANS ON PLUS A FEW STRAWBERRIES IN POTS AND SOME HERBS.MAYBE AFTER I GET TO GO SWIMMING AND STRENGTH MY BACK AND LOSE SOME WEIGHT I'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE A BETTER GARDEN NEXT YEAR.

Whew, the ALL CAPS...kind of hard on the eyes. But I did get the message - ask doctor if I need to increase iodine intake.
