http://documentaryheaven.com/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-losing-weight/

This is a link that was on a forum post here on FS. It's AMAZING! I encourage anyone that may read this journal entry to copy and paste the link and watch this. It's VERY long, but you can watch it in 10 min intervals if need be. I think it's a MUST for everyone - weight problem or not. Talks about visceral fat - fat around internal organs that causes a lot of the health issues we see in America -diabetes, cancer, heart disease. Apparently visceral fat may not even be noticeable from the outside - meaning you could be "thin" and still have a dangerous amount of this type of fat. Anyway, the documentary explains it FAR better than I ever could and I hope people will check it out.

As for me...ate more calories than I should have yesterday. I was SO hungry. Not the "I feel like eating" kind of hunger, but the "my stomach is rumbling and I just feel like I'm running on empty" kind of hunger. So hopefully no damage. I ate just over 1600 calories yesterday, so not like a binge or anything and burned around 2200 calories, so still a 600 calorie deficit. Not recording weight today, but it was up about .4 lbs - presumably from water/fluids/muscle building...

Today is Day 11 of Insanity - about 15% of the way through the program. :) Going well on that front...I swear I feel muscles differently. When I woke up this morning, lying in bed, I was "aware" of my calves. Does that make ANY sense? Like once in a while when I'm walking, I'm "aware" of my quads. Anyway, it feels like it's working, I feel stronger and I think my cardio endurance level is improving. Not bad for having been a smoker for 27 or 28 years of my life - thank God that part of my life is over! Well, I do the Cardio Power & Resistance workout today, and then I'll do the Slim in 6 workout. And I'll try to keep my calories under 1350 today :)

Is the Slim in 6 a really hard workout for a beginner?

Hi Andrea! You know...I really don't think it would be. I know I'm not a beginning, so not the best person to ask, but I think it's suitable for all fitness levels. The great thing about her workouts is that she gives very clear directions and the first level is VERY basic. And she reminds you to keep your body in the correct position to keep you from hurting yourself AND she keeps you breathing correctly (which is surprisingly important when it comes to exercising because you need to keep oxygenating your muscles as you work out to be able to keep exercising). So I guess the short answer is yes, I think it would be a suitable workout for a beginner. The other great part of the Slim in 6 is that there are three levels and you advance at your own pace. BUT...you really should push yourself because you'd be surprised at what you are capable of doing. In the biggest loser dvds, they bring up the point that "we have 400 lb people doing this workout, you can, too!!" :) As harsh as that sounded, it really motivated me when I thought "I can't do this!" I hope that helps. And check out eBay for the cheapest prices if you don't mind bidding and losing the occasional bid.

I watched that video and really felt I learned a lot from it. I would recommend anyone concerned about their weight to watch it. I know what you mean about "feeling" muscles. Weird but kinda cool too!

Hi candyann! Nice to see you here :) I'm happy you watched it, I think we all should, whether we're concerned with our weight or not. That doctor/researcher guy (?) didn't look fat at all, did he? And he had a lot of that visceral fat. Kind of frightening, isn't it? I guess, though, most of us here are doing all the right things to reverse that. I just hope it's true that when you lose fat, you lose it from there first! Nice to be understood, too! (the "feeling" muscles part - very weird, but very cool! :)

I saw a part of that documentary a couple of days ago after Lisa also mentioned it, but haven't finished it yet. After reading your enthusiastic recommendation, I will try to get back to it asap. You sound ok with the food, sometimes water helps to quell hunger, but I'm sure you are just fine with all that amazing exercise. Keep up the good work and have a great evening!

you're right about the dr. not looking fat at all! I was so surprised that he needed to lose!! It really made me think and kind of freaked me out. It helped to know that by low-carbing the "belly fat" goes first! Since he said that you lose visceral fat before you lose the obvious fat,we must be on the right track! Knowledge is power!!

Great videos: absolutely fascinating! And scary that - without a full body scan - we can't tell how much visceral fat is surrounding our internals. I love soup, and now that I know what an aid it is to dieting, will be eating a lot more, with lots of lean protein in the blend. But I think I'll pass on baked beans for breakfast... D: your after-burn must be astronomical, given your daily routine. Well done!
