For the next couple of nights my fiancé and I are having oven baked chicken leg quarters, because they were a great deal on sale. :) However, I am not sure how many calories are in them.
They were 15 oz raw, so I put it in Fat Secret as a 15 oz chicken leg with bone, raw (yield after cooking, bone removed). It came to 483 calories... That seemed a bit high to me, because there does not seem to be enough edible chicken to warrant so many calories. I also did not eat the skin and I am not sure if that is automatically calculated into the calories.
Therefore, after I ate dinner- which was delicious- I weighed the bones (5 oz) and subtracted that amount from the raw weight. Meaning, I entered in a 10 oz chicken leg, which came to 322 calories. I think that is still a little high, but a lot more believable than the original raw weight.
Maybe I should have weighed the chicken after it was cooked and after dinner weigh the inedible parts and use that as the amount of chicken eaten? Seems like a lot of work, but I do not want to be skimping on calories. There is an Almond Nutbutter in the pantry that I want to try. The problem is the calories are 95 calories per tablespoon and I have never eaten just one tablespoon! :D
