Sandy701's Journal, 05 January 2013

Another cloudy, cold day, but DH, the doggies, and I all got 3.1 miles in after it had "warmed" to the mid-40's. DH and I talked about how we've grown "soft," bundling up like we did for the mid-40's. Back when we were kids and living "up North," there'd be no hats and gloves, maybe not even a jacket!

Speaking of "up North," the Packers have a playoff game tonight, so we've pulled out all the paraphernalia we can to cheer them on, albeit from a distance. Our flag's been flying since early this AM and I changed out the outside garage lights to green and gold. Inside, all our Packer snowmen, Ty bears, and window stickies are up. I might even have the dogs wear their Packer collars!

I discovered something during the holidays regarding food. At some point, DH asked me if there was anything (else) I wanted to eat that I normally wouldn't eat. The idea was to get in all the off-plan stuff before going back on plan. After the indulgences I did have, I actually got to the point where I didn't want the stuff anymore. I knew I could have it, but just didn't want it! I thought about a number of items I'd have gone crazy for in the past, but they just didn't appeal anymore. How crazy is that? Now I'm not saying that there weren't a couple off-plan things that still appealed, but what I'm saying is that 3-4 years ago, there would have been lots and lots of off-plan foods that would have appealed.

Then, once firmly back on plan, some of those very foods that had ZERO appeal to me - when I was allowing myself the possibility of having them - now were exactly the foods I wanted! Talk about craziness!!!

So I guess the message is that even after coming-up-on 3 years doing low-carb, strange things still happen. At least handling these things gets easier....I think!

My sincerest congratulations for keeping your head this holiday! I had the opposite experience. After a while I was eating the junk, not because I wanted it, but because I knew I couldn't have it after I went back on plan. Now that is crazy!

LOL...it seems pigs do fly don't they! Surprised, I know I was & still am. I call what you were describing the true power of low carb WOE/WOL. In the past those forays into the oblivion of indulgences, when there Was No End to the list of things I missed, so getting through the list was a lengthy process. We are never too old to learn something new are we (good thing!)
