flaxseed's Journal, 01 July 2010

Well the numbers are reducing slowly - very slowly. I still haven't got completely back on track (McD's today after OHs cystoscopy). Hospital visits still predominate. He has had a stretching procedure and another cystoscopy today and they say he needs some diathermy which will mean a short hospital stay. Don't know why they didn't stretch things earlier as they had so much trouble the last twice and caused him great discomfort. Chemo is still continuing and we will know next week whether they will give him any more. My whole life seems to be taken up with one procedure or another.

On the bright side I have taken out a small mortgage to ease funds until I am able to sell house FIL lives in. I have changed our car for a smaller one which means less insurance, tax and no MOT test for 3 years. It will also mean we can go down South for 5 days at the end of August for his sister's 90th birthday celebrations and I will be able to see my girls and have a hug. Although I talk to them almost every day, its not quite like a hug. I hope he is not too bad while we are away.

I'm still volunteering in the charity shop two mornings a week and this is my bit of me time. He still doesn't like it when I go, but I'm sticking to my guns. I really enjoy it and there are a great bunch of volunteers. It really brightens my week and does some good at the same time. Better than shifting the dust bunnies and laundry at home!

Weather here has been superb for the last couple of weeks. Wall to wall sunshine and non stop blue skies. I seem to have noticed how quickly things change in the verges and hedgerows this year. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since it was daffodils and snowdrops and now its comfrey and purple and yellow vetch everywhere. The corn and barley fields are beginning to turn golden and as Scotland grows seed potatoes there are fields of them everywhere. They look quite pretty when they flower with different shades of pink, purple and white. Weeds are continuing to grow like crazy in the garden and I seem to spend some time every day pulling them up.

I am absolutely shattered tonight. I had planned to have a morning shopping while he was in the hospital, but it turned out to be quicker than we anticipated and I had to wait for him and then run round like a maniac getting the shopping while he sat in the car and waited. Not the leisurely stroll round the clothes and shoe shops I had imagined and then had to drive home in peak hour.

My bed is calling.... Hope you all had a happy healthy day

So very good to hear from you Flax. Have missed your beautiful prose tremendously. I'm truly sorry you are still in some difficulty, but the charity shop mornings sound exactly what you need.....YOU time. God bless you for being able to do what you do. I am happy to hear you have found a way for some financial relief. It is so hard to maintain these days. Here in the good ole USA is not any easier. Our economy really is bad and people are so dejected. Times are tough all over. Be well, take care of OH and that trip at the end of next month sounds wonderful and I just know you will enjoy to the most. Be well, sleep well and please write again soon. P.S. - Your are right, you are dropping. I drop slowly too Flax, so I understand the frustration at times. Sleep tight.

So glad that some things are even'd out for you-the car, etc. I am thrilled that you are doing something wonderful for yourself (and other in the process!). Bravo on taking care of you! I hope that you will get your shopping leisure time in soon and that you will enjoy yoru trip. Sounds wonderful! I so agree that REAL live hugs are definately better than phone ones! :)
