GlennM's Journal, 29 May 2010

I was just so busy yesterday I didn't get on here! And last night I went out for pizza and my friend Bruce bought it, the day before yesterday I saw a cousin - I ran into him at a submarine restaurant. I haven't seen him in ten years. I'm glad I'm thinner than the last time he saw me, I was fairly heavy probably the last time he saw me. He's three years younger than me, a plumber and his wife has a good job too so they're doing well. Today I will eat light and tomorrow I plan to fast. No diet drinks yesterday! Or sugar except in Tums for the calcium. I will drink iced tea w/o any sweeteners from now on. After I fast on Sunday I know a lot of the toxins from the diet drinks will be out of my body. And I am not going to eat Splenda either, so this is going to be tough. Stevia gives me Charlie Horse leg cramps so that is out too. Going to AZ still quite likely, but I'm thinking it might delay me getting published. I really should go though, my hips were bothering me too much recently to ride my bike with the arthritis and this early morning as the sun rises my back is in pain, but I will take meds to rest and maybe a hot bath. Two vocabulary words today as I wasn't on yesterday...
Friday word of the day: quid pro quo: -noun- something for something, a favor or advantage given in return for something, or an equivalent exchange.------- Origin is Latin: something for something.
Saturday word of the day: bowdlerize: -verb- also with -ise at the end: to remove from (a text) material regarded as improper or offensive. -------- Origin is from the name of Thomas Bowdler, who published an expurgated edition of Shakespeare in 1818.

About "quid pro quo": In modern French, it became "quiproquo" and it means a misunderstanding, like when you think someone is someone else.

Thanks jessy for telling us these words in French at times. I know some words are more common in other languages. I can read Spanish fluently so see the words that came from Latin and are similar in English, and I hope to learn French inevitably. Today was a fairly low calorie day. Tomorrow I fast. Now I'm debating moving. Should I stay until I'm published? I am so sick of the place where I live though but there is income I can't make up right away in AZ or elsewhere I have here, so I don't know what to do. I have no college degree or anything if I move I am going to a place with minimum wage work at best in a depressed job market. I think I may stay until I am published and beg to move to a better apartment until then - I am on a waiting list to move...
